Martavis Bryant

May 5, 2013, 11:36 AM

Looks like all his scores (4tds) last season came when the outcome of the games were already decided. He recorded a 22 yarder vs. ball st.....a 38 yarder vs. furman....knotched a 41 yarder vs. duke and a 40 yard td vs. ncst. Bryant did not record a single stat in Cu's biggest games last season. Fsu, Lsu, and Usc. What is up with that? It does not appear he played a very prominent role in Cu's offense last season. Has he earned a starting position this year? What are his expectations?

I hope your coach feels the same way.***

He didn't play much because we too deep !

Very soon, my friend

You will find out what Mr. Bryant is all about.

And your corners will know what his expectations and capabilities are.

They will also be able to draw a detailed picture of the soles of his shoes.

If he were a baseball player, the cliche on him would be Million Dollar arm, ten cent head.

Martavis has all the talent and measurables a coach could want. He was suspended for LSU (skipping class/ study hall, not necessarily grades) so that is why there are no stats there. He is a heck of a deep threat (30 ypc average, I believe), but his route running for shorter routes has been suspect. He body catches at times, so fighting though traffic for a ball wouldn't happen. However, the coaches have said he has been finally putting it all together, starting with off the field and commitment. If he can translate that hard work to the field, he has to potential to be a legit NFL WR.

thanks for the info. was wondering if his PT had anything to do with the short routes because it looks like he doesn't have trouble with the deep balls. is it safe to say he's no worse than your # 4 wr behind watkins, humphries, and peake?

Re: Martavis Bryant

May 5, 2013, 12:17 PM

Definitely "no worse than #4" on our depth chart. I expect him to start, though. We have 5 WRs who are basically co-starters at this point. They'll all get plenty of pt and plenty of stats.

We have 5 star WR's just waiting for playing time...

WE TOO DEEP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

When he scores...

May 5, 2013, 11:47 AM

on your young, inexperienced defense....in the first quarter Aug 31st.....will we still hear from you Mutt????

military_donation.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

A lot of talent, but I don't think he grasped the offense.

May 5, 2013, 11:56 AM

Whenever he went in the game, he ran a fly. That's why most of his catches are for 30+ yards.

Has all the potential in the world but has to become a reliable route-runner who knows what the heck he is doing out there. I don't think they could get Tajh and him on the same page.

Also seems to play smaller than he is. The guy is 6'5'' but I would easily trust Nuk at 6'1'' in a jump ball situation over Bryant.

Runs like a dang gazelle, great speed, perfect frame for a WR, but just cannot seem to put it all together. COULD have a tremendous year or could be more of the same.

Re: A lot of talent, but I don't think he grasped the offense.

May 5, 2013, 12:50 PM

I think that Bryant's biggest problems come from the way he feels about himself. The guy has all the tool and the ability to be a great receiver if he will just see himself that way. If he had more playing time, I think that his confidence would start to match his abilities. When a team always has the receiving skill player as we have had, the younger players start to lose confidence in their own abilities. I am confident that Bryant and Peake will have great years this season. Some get it quicker than others. Nuke and Sammy are the two we have/had that will be the ones that leave after their junior years. Bryant and Peake will be two that will play through their senior years. But I still see both of them having an NFL career. Just like Tajh, NFL scouts didn't think he was ready for the NFL this season but, if he has a season compared to last year or a little better. He will be drafted I think late 1st or very early 2nd. If Tajh can take us to a undefeated season and invited to NY, he will be an early 1st round draft pick IMO. In fact, it's just my personal opinion on all three players I've talked about.

I think staying home for the bowl game woke him up. At least hopefully.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

To add to what Clemsonbrad23 said, he had an attitude

May 5, 2013, 12:14 PM

problem last year. He didn't like being buried on the depth chart and started mailing it in. The bowl game suspension was a make-or-break occasion for him. He could have quit and transferred, or man up and get with the program. He chose the latter and 2014 should be his breakout year. At 6'5" with speed, he's a force to be reckoned with. Fear #1 if Sammy continues to draw double teams all the time. Nobody is gonna cover Martavis 1-on-1. He'll win every jump ball and often will get behind the defender.

I really think y'all's only hope is to play a soft zone and hope your front 7 can keep the run game in check.

He's in the best receiving corps in the country.

May 5, 2013, 12:25 PM

DeAndre Hopkins
Sammy Watkins
Adam Humphries
Charone Peake
Brandon Ford and a small dose of Sam Cooper helps a little too.
His chance will come, give him patience. And he didn't play vs. LSU anyway, you can't take away from him for that. In 2011, he had some snazzy looking catches & TDs alike, I remember one TD from early 2011 that is my phone background to this day. Give home his #### against Georgia.

Don't know if you went to the spring game or not, but he looked like a game changer. Looked like the best WR on the field. I stood next to him after the game. He was much bigger than the last time I saw him in person. He's gotten a good bit thicker all over. The kid can still flat out FLY, too! Seriously, the kid is like 6'5 and has got serious speed. Can't wait to see him thiss season because the light has really come on for him since the end of last season.

Watching the spring game on CSS I recalling seeing him "going and getting" a ball that most would have never gotten to.

Well considering he averaged 30.1 yards per catch he was doing something right. He would be a starter on your team just like he will be on ours next year. He is 6'5" 210 lbs and runs a 4.40 and probably has a 40" vertical. You can question him now but when he torches your young DBs on August 31st you will know who he is then.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

when he scores Aug 31 it will still be in mop up duty***
