Somebody help me out with Clemson's WR positions

May 3, 2021, 2:39 PM

I know wideouts as:

X - lines up outside on the LOS, typically your #1, big enough to beat a jam.

Slot - typically lines up behind the LOS and inside another receiver, twitchy guys that run shorter change of direction routes. Usually in on 3 or 4 WR sets.

Y - lines up on the LOS with the offensive line. The tight end spot in 01, 11, and 21 personnel.

Z - lines up opposite the X, typically behind the LOS, and is therefore difficult to jam.

How do our number positions line up with that? I know we have the "9 man" and the "2 man"; can someone equate these to more commonly used receiver terminology for me? Don't we use a "5" as well?

One thing you forgot to clarify about the Slot.......

receiver at Clemson is that we refer to it as either the "#13" or the "HR" position.

It can be confusing. I tried to find an online diagram, but no success.

2 = WR to the field (long side)

9 = WR to the boundary (short side)

5 = WR in the slot

We probably have other numbers for when we're in a 4-WR set or running trips, but I don't remember any other numbers.
