This is what kind of person Dabo Swinney is...

I recently learn of the following information and I thought it was worth sharing. Through my profession I am tightly knit to the medical community and know the following information to be 100% accurate.
A long time Clemson fan I will not name was recently in hospice care in the Anderson County area and was in his last days of life. His son, also a devoted Clemson supporter, contacted Don Munson and told him nothing would make his father happier than to shake Dabo’s hand to thank him for what he was doing for Clemson football. Not only did Dabo and Munson visit the dying man and deliver a signed football, they brought several players who spent time with the man, shared stories of the ACC championship season, prayed with him, and imparted an immense sense of joy to this man in his final days on this earth.
Since this meeting, Dabo and select Clemson players have visited other terminally ill Clemson fans, old and young, delivering numerous gifts and providing a bright spark to an otherwise grim period of life. It is one thing to stroke off checks to charities at luncheons and kiss babies, but it is a completely different ballgame to face a dying person and their family with the purpose of delivering joy.
If this doesn’t speak to the character and strength of our head coach, I don’t know what does. Wins and losses are important, but this man cares about the Clemson community and is giving back. He can stay for another 10 years as far as I’m concerned after learning of this and similar stories.

No matter what one thinks of his coaching style, there is no denying the fact that Coach Swinney is an exceptional man! Clemson is fortunate to have him.

I only have one point of dispute. I hope he stays longer than 10 years. He is the kind of man that personifies what Clemson stands for. I know we will be successful with him at the helm, both on the field and off, and I wouldn't trade him for a baker's dozen spurriers.

I love it when Dabo get that kid type of excitement after he wins a big game. That is the joy of coaching for him. Any that knows or remembers that joy, will keep them doing it for a long time. Money can't buy that excitement!!! It's called absolutely loving your job, when it don't seem like a job....

The only ones who mind are the ones who really are coots or who have a poor sense of right and wrong. Dabo is about doing the right things, on the field and off. Many other coaches, not so much, but nobody better than Dabo, and his leadership will make great Clemson teams and great Clemson men!

Point for the Post. As far as his post game interviews. I'll take an excited coach than a smug one any day. It's obvious that he cares for Clemson and his team, both personally and professionally. I think that Nick Saban is the best coach in college football. But at what cost has he attained that level. Giving recruits scholarships just to take it away because the recruit gets injured while playing high school football. As much as most dislike Jimbo Fisher. I have to respect him for keeping his word toward one of his recruits. This is the character that Dabo has displayed more times that anyone can imagine. I'll take our coaches character over Nick Saban anytime. Besides Dabo's building a elite program here at Clemson and our guys are ready to step through the door to greatness. Go Tigers. Start and finish the the 2013 season with a win over an SEC opponent. With a win over USuC as well.

I have never had fault with his post game none demure reaction , the ESPN girl enjoyed that lift and it showed me he was beyond gleeful that we had won, just like I was feeling at the moment.
He fits Clemson as well as DF did, and the football is more exciting.

post-big win excitement all the better.
Would rather have that 100 times over than the coach speak, forced conversation, ingenuine monotone dead head talk of most every coach out there . . .
He is genuine and enthusiastic and loves a whole bunch what I love dearly - Clemson University.

Boeden wouldn't have recommended him for the job if Dabo wasn't like that.
I know Bowden NOW is not remembered positively by most, but he was like this.
I remember being "relieved" that the football program was moving in a new direction when Bowden was fired, but I still remember the tear-filled interview with James Davis that.
As I tucked my oldest, 10 at the time, in bed that night I asked him if he saw James. I told him to remember that although Clemson probably needed to move on, Tommy was more than a coach. He was a good man.

Agree with you 100%, also heard he made a personal visit to the local free clinic in Clemson and made a significant financial contribution without asking for any public thanks. He is a very strong Christian person and not a bad football coach either!

Thank you for sharing this post. We lose sight sometimes about what is really important in life. Dabos enthusiasm is great. He will grow out of it at some point but u gotta love it. I expect he would like to retire at Clemson. All in everyday. Go tigers

There is absolutely no doubt in my mind that Coach Swinney is the perfect fit at Clemson for most Tiger fans everywhere. He says the right things, he obviously has the enthusiasm, and he boldly proclaims his love and loyalty to CU. He for sure is always the eternal optimist, and most Tiger fans are always "all in" with anything he wants to tell them. All that aside to me, his team preparation and game-coaching in the CFB was his best yet! That is what has impressed me about Dabo recently! Now if he can do the same thing against UGA, I will really be impressed.

1. You will be impressed for how long ? Till the next head scratching loss ? They WILL come - Danny had them, every team / coach has them.
What then - you back to the bashing that earned you a 41% pulse rate ?
This board needs a WHOLE LOT LESS of your likes, imho.
2. You sound like / come across like Clemson University through its football program and coach OWE you something. Do you feel that way ?
They don't - it is our choice. You aren't owed anything.
Don't mean to be confrontational - just don't get the mentality of "if he does this and this and this THEN I will be impressed" . . . we don't give a crap if you are impressed or not.
I like what I see and how it represents MY University. On the field and off, pre-game and post-game, after big wins and crushing defeats.

No worries! You have not hurt my feelings. I don't care about a pulse rate, because I'm not trying to impress anyone on this board, and I'm not a crowd follower, just to be on the "cool" side. I was very impressed with Dabo's prep, game plan, and especially the team's toughness in the CFB. You do realize that we don't do this very often under his watch, don't you. Too many of y'all celebrate his enthusiasm and words, instead of the man's accomplishments. Yes, I know we have won an ACC 'ship, and played for another, but frankly......against who? I will always measure our team by the games that are nationally relevant (FSU, USC-football wise at least-the one in Columbia, and LSU). If you have a problem with that, then we'll have to agree to disagree, and by the way, we were 1-2 in those games this year.

They are talked about because of the hype machine that is ESecPN protecting its bankroll and a dooooosh of a coach - although he DOES win . . . .
And they have been good for 3 to 4 years . . . . after His Lordness leaves they slip back to oblivion . . . if not before.
THAT is your definition of national relevance ? Unbelievably laughable.
Also - you do realize that Clemson ( I can't say WE because with the chicken statement you made I think I see some feathers poking out of you ) hasn't been nationally relevant in 25 years and the only reason you are afforded the luxury of NOW (once again?) using that as a measuring stick is because of the time, money, energy, effort and success that Clemson University, Dabo and coaches have had ? Both on the field and off (recruiting, graduating players, developing boys into men - responsibility, faith, integrity)
You realize that - right ? The very standard you are using to "wait to be impressed" by is a standard that is being put back in place by the current staff - a standard that hasn't existed for 25 years.

Have Dabo be the person he is before, during and after a game than Nick Saban. I love Dabo's enthusiasm for Clemson, the players and the game.
Did you see Nick Saban after the NC????
1st he gets pissed that his kids dump Gatorade on him, 2nd he totally blows off how big of a deal it is on winning a National Championship by stating, "we'll enjoy this for 24-48 hours and then get back to work."
3rd he makes a *%$#head comment about oh I just leave my rings sitting on the table for the recruits to see, blah, blah, blah. What a jerk off!!!!!!!!!!!I hope good ole Karma comes back around and he doesn't see another one since it's no big deal and all.

Agree 100%. If we open our ears and listen to what other fans say about Dabo. We will Hear their hatred that's over flowing from jealousy. It makes them think why, why is our coach so sour. Why isn't our coach excited about our teams success as Dabo. Because of their coaches inability to get extremely excited, they hate Dabo for it. It's just jealous, the nature of the beast/jealousy.

My brother is an 88 year old WWII vet ,who is a Clemson graduate, lives out of state, and in poor health.He is a huge Tiger fan and is good friends with the Dad of one of the players on this years team. Dabo wrote a personal letter to my brother telling him how good his friends son was doing, thanked him for his service, and other things of interest about the team. That letter meant so much to a bedridden old Vet and shows what a sincere and wonderful man our coach is.

by the smallest accomplishments, when taken in sum. While the story you relate may have been a small favor given by Dabo, to the family concerned and now to many others, it was a charitable act worthy of praise. And each such act adds to the reputation. I'm certain that we have all known people like this, as I am, also, certain that many on TigerNet are worthy.

Tommy Bowden did the exact same thing for my dad near his last days. It is amazing that Dabo did that. Also just wanted to share about Tommy as well. Tommy gets a bad rap as a coach. Both men are fantastic men.

I tell Dabo bashers DAILY how fortunate we are to have a coach/mentor like him. Its no wonder that every player that has suited up under him, loved him. No better individual represents the university and fan base like Dabo Swinney. Hope he remains the Tiger coach for life.
