If Brent Venables leaves, who are some top candidates for DC?

For as much as Dabo has hired from within on the offensive side of the ball, there is no way he does that with defense.

Morgan Scalley's defense looked pretty good tonight for Utah. Looked pretty solid the last few years actually.

I hope not. MIA D has been terrible with Manny as DC and HC.

Manny Diaz??? You've gotta be kidding he has never played one minute of college football at any level and his most notable accomplishment on his resume' is being a "coffee boy" at espn. With that in mind, you wonder why Miami Hurricanes are horrible. Let's hope many stays in Coral Gables.

I think he goes from within with Todd Bates. He can coach his A$$ OFF and is a great recruiter. Like Brent has learned from Dabo, Todd has learned from Brent. I have faith in him and the players love him. I think the players would want Bates and would PLAY for him, just like they did (do) for Brent.
Why do you think he cannot do the job???

I wonder if Gary Patterson would be interested. If we promote Bates then maybe we can get Hobby or even Chris Rump to come back.

B/c when Brooks retired and Hobby left

Dabo hired outside the program. So, with no DC experience on staff and with Dabo staying away from the defensive side of the ball, I would assume he'd want to bring in someone with experience and the ability to run the whole defense without input.

You can have Jay Bateman (UNC). I’ll pay his moving expenses if you take him.

I disagree, Mike Reed would be the man for the job if you asked me.

We know Dabo can be a bit stubborn but he's never struck me as a foolish man. Bypassing any of the current defensive coaches and promoting Conn would be idiotic. What does he tell recruits....I use to coach high school football and Dabo is my best friend. Everyone on the Clemson football staff knows that Conn continously copies drills & techniques from Reed. There's a running joke about it amongst the staff. These are delicate times in college football. A bad decision will set your program back 5 years....don't believe it...look at Tennessee & Texas. Hopefully BV doesn't leave and we won't have this problem.

If he gets an offer he is gone! Wake up people. Noone that is sane turns down that job as your first shot. It's a life changing decision even if you fail. At age 50, 30 to 40 million with the buyout means you never have to work again and neither do your great grandchildren! If they offer him he is taking it. Just pray that they want someone else first!

Bates or Reed

I think it will probably be Bates and we will go out and hire a good young LB coach unless DeAndre McDaniel gets promoted and I do think he deserves an opportunity. He is a huge part of the support staff. He may go with BV.
