Vanderbilt

Jul 22, 2020, 11:30 AM

I hear that the SEC is not happy with Vandy’s commitment to their athletic programs. If they are forced out of the SEC, would the ACC take them? They are in a large city in a state new to the ACC and have good academics if that matters.

Probably if Swoff is still around. That sounds like something he'd do

This sounds like nothing more than internet chatter from fans of other SEC fans. Why would the SEC be unhappy with Vandy's overall commitment to their athletic programs? They won national championships in baseball in 2014 and 2019.

They've also made the NCAA tournament 5 times within the past 10 years in basketball. Who honestly cares about any of the other sports? Even then, Vandy has two recent national titles in bowling, and a national championship in women's tennis in 2015. I get that football is king, but Vandy was never in the SEC for their great football tradition.

Let's hope not...

The league already has enough schools that are very good academically but bring very little, if anything, to the table athletically.

Way to bash UNC on academics. :)

You seem to show up like clockwork when this subject comes up. Seems like some folks want to hold a hateful grudge against the Soggy Bottom Boys, I mean Tar Heels. Pardon the “Oh Brother” reference.

Well I think years of cheating deserve to get you a label for it. Swoff and the NCAA may not want to deal with it but UNC should get "full credit" for conspiring to have academic fraud.

I’ll admit I get a little irritated when people think there was this systemic cheating throughout the university. I know what happened. It was limited to a very isolated department. I would say more but in this day of political correctness I would be crucified for stating the truth. Let’s just call it “racial fairness” ran amok.

Well it would put the state of Tennessee in the ACC footprint. That's what you are looking for when it comes to expansion TV money -adding more rooftops in new states. I think either Vandy or Memphis would be good candidates for expansion.
