Loudest Moment in Death Valley?

Jun 8, 2019, 12:45 PM

I was rewatching the Syracuse game the other day, and got goosebumps with how LOUD the roar was when Xavier Thomas sacked Dungy at the end of the game.

That got me thinking....what are some of the loudest MOMENTS you can recall in the Valley? Not even sustained crowd noise for the whole game, but those plays that really stand out?

We was so loud at that game. Also the year we best Maryland who won the ACC because of our extra year of probation and we stomped them and boomer was most likely sick of us hearing us chant his name

1988 "puntrooski" game. No one I saw sat, no one stopped yelling.

Side note. FSU had an RB named Sammie Smith. With FSU students in front of us on the Hill, my buddy would yell out, "Give Sammie the ball!" To which I would reply, "Sammie say he don't want the ball!"

FSU had something like 32 yards rushing in the first half.

We all know what happened the following year when Hugo came knocking and the team ran FSU out of the stadium in Tallahassie.

11/12/83; 363,729 balloons released; Clemson 52, MD 27

Jun 8, 2019, 1:45 PM

Clemson was undefeated in the ACC but on probation and ineligible for ACC Championship. Maryland was the default ACC champion regardless of the outcome of the game at Clemson. Boomer had MD in the student section red zone. The ACC had just instigated an excessive noise rule/penalty...probably aimed at Clemson. With the game wrapped up, MD was driving towards the green bank, back when the lower deck and green bank student sections were packed. Boomer gets under center, and Death Valley got LOUD. Boomer came out from under center and sort of pleaded to the ref. Clemson got an excessive noise warning. Eventually, the head cheerleader addressed the student section, and said that we should all be very quiet because Boomer couldn't hear. When Boomer broke the huddle, the head cheerleader got everybody to make the shhhhhhhhh noise...and everybody did! It was EERIE! Boomer attempted about a 10+ yard TD pass attempt to the back corner of the end zona and BRUTALLY overthrew it. The cool thing was a noise level loud enough to get warned for it, followed by this eerie shhhhhhhhhhhh noise.

The trouble with that play is the linebacker had an interception go right through his arms. We would have been set up on the 25 yard line.

Jun 8, 2019, 10:38 PM

Are you talking about the 2005 A&M game where Jad Dean kicked the game winning field goal??? There's no doubt that was loud, but personally I don't think it even compares to the game against Miami a few weeks later on that 3rd down sack late in the 4th quarter. I would put 2007 Boston College ahead of the 2005 A&M game. It's difficult to compare other games sitting in other seats, but I was in the student section from 2004-2007. Miami hands down.

Re: Loudest Moment in Death Valley?

Probably not as loud but I always loved the Rennie Moore sack at the end of FSU in 2011.
Hard to beat that late September/October 3:30 kick home game in The Valley. With the sun setting through the glass of the west end zone in the fourth quarter.

Great call from Nessler on this one "82 thousand in death valley, I don't think there's one that sitting"
