Ross/clearing up some things

Apr 30, 2022, 10:45 PM

I've been told that just five NFL teams medically cleared Justyn Ross, and that could have played a part in his not being drafted. Could have, meaning that I was also told that only teams who have Ross on their board would go to the lengths of medically clearing him. So that doesn't mean every other team didn't clear him, just the ones that had him on their board. I gotta admit, I was a little shocked when I heard that number. I will let you know when I hear if a team has signed him

I understand him wanting to move on

but he’d have been better off to have come back and played another year in college. Put up some better stats, show teams that he’s healthy, and surely he’d have put himself in a much better position and at least gotten drafted.

Better to sign a UFA deal and get started on trying to make a roster and getting to a next contract. Sooner you get started the better.

I would have thought he asked for a draft grade before making a decision but I guess he mustn’t have.

you have no first hand knowledge of anything that comes remotely close to matching your emotional disdain for others that don’t share your fact-devoid agenda. That one, old man.

Shouldn’t you be TD’ing posters that don’t agree with you on say, Clemson basketball?

The broken foot thing seems a bit of a cover, sorry. As has been pointed out long ago,.speed was definitely never his game, but his 40 time was downright pedestrian. That said, his game was moving chains and making plays while he had Tee on the other side of the field. Solid #2 for sure for us, but beyond? I really didn't see it. I hope he proves all of us wrong who don't see him as a star and kills it somewhere.

Weird that you defend crappy coaching but want to amplify negative attacks against the staff of our more successful sport. It’s almost like you’re not even a Clemson fa….Hey, wait a minute!?!!

I’m sorry. Didn’t realize you were both on the medical staff that cleared him and in the meetings with him and his family to understand exactly the options and how they were presented, Doc. You’re choosing to not be happy about them. You have no real basis for an opinion on the topic other than your inclination. That reveals a lot.

He’s usually a very agreeable fellow, with lots of friends.

At this point, what would cause him to not be medically cleared?

Apr 30, 2022, 11:45 PM

It’s obvious he should have come back

May 1, 2022, 5:42 AM

because his heart was never into it this past season. No play was more evident of this then the last one against NC State. I have to believe that attitude cost him in a major way.

Re: It’s obvious he should have come back

May 1, 2022, 7:06 AM

I would imagine it’s hard to put your heart into something that can put you into a wheel chair for the rest of your life. It was a miracle he got cleared to play this year. But just because your body was cleared, mental hurdles are way tougher. Don’t blame him one bit. He knew it was better to move on from Clemson and let the younger players take over. He will get a try out somewhere in the nfl. He was a huge part of our national championship team and killed it in the 2 playoff games. That is how I chose to remember him.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Good perspective here.

May 1, 2022, 7:21 AM

Well said. I wish him all the success in the world moving forward.

I feel badly and am sad for Justin.

May 1, 2022, 7:02 AM

In the span of three years Justyn has gone from an extreme high to undoubtedly a low. How many of you would have thought after his Freshman campaign that he would be where he is this Sunday? I want Justyn to achieve all his dreams but today has to be pretty crappy for him and I feel sad for that.

Sorry that JR did not get drafted, but this is a prime example of the market place at work. This is a fine example why Young men who play football had better get an education and prepare for the future without football. Go Tigers.

Absolutely correct. I hope this is also the reason that we are so selective in the young men we offer ...... and the ones that choose to come here.

Re: Ross/clearing up some things

May 1, 2022, 11:09 AM

NCAA should allow Ross to return. If Miami players can get an agent for NIL, he can return.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I am heartbroken for him, but from a business standpoint

May 2, 2022, 11:15 AM

I am pretty sure NFL teams see this as a liability/risk issue, not a question of talent. Can you imagine the "optics" of a kid like Ross getting seriously injured or worse, knowing his medical history?

Anyhow, IF Clemson had gotten ahead of the NIL thing instead of being reactive, we might have been able to pay him enough to help his family. Does he still have eligibility? Is that forfeited once one enters the draft? If not, get him back and get him paid a little. This Tweet just hurts:

Using your own logic, do you not think the same liability

May 2, 2022, 11:18 AM

would apply to someone PAYING him to play, what with all the risk and all?

If the NFL deems it too much risk, wouldn't oh say Bojangles or whoever assess the risk similarly?

How much was he getting paid already? If you don't know, it's not safe to make assumptions.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I don't know, but his Tweet seems to indicate he hasn't been

May 2, 2022, 11:38 AM

paid much.

I was surprised he played again at all.

One of the sad cases we sometimes see.

Anyhow, I hope he gets a chance somewhere.
