USA chasing down China in gold medal count

we are clear in total medals of course but the IOC sorts by golds only (not a good way to do it IMO but beside the point). We have the chance to chase down China in the next few days.
USA still has...
gold medal game in women's water polo, volleyball, men's and women's basketball, possibly baseball.
Individual finals in heavyweight wrestling, lightweight boxing, women's golf leading.
Plus we could still nab a few golds in canoe, track and field, sport climbing etc.
now as far as china, they do not have many more events the could get gold in.There are still a couple more diving events (sigh) and rythmic gymnastics that they have a shot in.
If it wasn't for the disappointing track performance so far, we would already be clear. But as it is, we can still get it done. Should be an exciting finish.

China got an unexpected gold in javelin but they didn’t win women’s race walk which they were favored in.

Kind of ridiculous what I read. A billion plus people and they start hundreds of thousands of kids in diving at age 6 and bring up through the system. They even act kind of like robots. Oh yeah, and the men's swim trunks - well, let's just say they are a bit too small.

Which are the only sports we have never medaled in.
And they don’t really compete in some of the stuff we dominate.
We really only go head to head with them in gymnastics and a few swimming events

But really, we have dominant swimming...11 of our golds come from that. Most countries have an area where they are more consistently strong than others.
Only five golds in T&F for America is something. I know we have a couple more events coming but I'm not sure I can recall a lower count for American in Track & Field. We had 13 golds and 32 medals in Rio.
