Oh! Just noticed your link to some Twitter guy who said:
"The Supreme Court just handed the South Carolina election to Trump and Lindsey Graham. Or at least made it a hell of a lot harder for Biden and Jaime Harrison to have all their votes counted."

At least he realizes that this is a ploy to steal an election, not some fake concern over voter fraud.

They're not really even pretending it's not voter suppression anymore.

They're just pretty much suppressing away in plain view of everybody. And then wondering out of the other side of their mouths why the streets are filling up with angry people.

It's like: well, Karen, let me start counting off the reasons, this is gonna take awhile....

Try again next time by using the courts to strike down a law in SC. Its the DEM way instead of changing the law. Its no wonder they want to pack the Supreme Court. Have the courts legislate not the congress or state legislators. I think that is what the constitution wanted.

Curious as to how this played out in SC then, considering it

Oct 6, 2020, 5:01 PM [ in reply to Re: This isn’t going to only affect SC as other ]

is dominated by Republicans throughout all state and legislative positions.

At some point, either by court order or decree, SC leadership had to allow a waiver for the witness signature. Does anyone know the story behind our circumstance? 2 lazzy 2 goog.

If by court order via lawsuit, then that state / local court decision was overruled. So much for federal mechanisms not getting involved.

If by decree, then state Republican leadership put it into effect.

Pubs have been notorious for kicking legislative issues

Oct 6, 2020, 6:21 PM

down the road in House and Senate. This is what gerrymandering districts has done to our legislative branch. Since a Pub's election is more often a primary than the general, toeing the line on legislation is more important than compromise because toeing the line helps win you your primary, which is all your constructed district needs.

Immigration.

Social Security.

Environment and climate.

Healthcare.

Infrastructure.

Can't vote in the nation's best interests if your interests are tied to blocs. Goes both ways but Pubs have the clear edge here.

Then Kavanauh should be astonished by Tx Gov. Abbot's order to remove all ballot collection boxes leaving only 1 box per county. Not to mention putting another Judge on the bench AFTER an election has already started.

Maybe Kavanaugh has selective outrage.

Have you voted yet? It is kinda hard. I went two weeks ago and stood in line outside for 3.5 hours to get my little sticker. I'll give you that this probably matters for Harrison, but I also kinda expected the decision. I guess we're going to have to wait for the dems to take the Presidency and Senate to make voting easier.

No one said Biden and Harrison (in SC) or candidates in other states, wouldn't receive votes from people that follow the rules. Get a witness and vote your own ballot and there will be no problems.

BTW, the Supreme Court did this without Barrett.

Re: This isn’t going to only affect SC as other

Oct 6, 2020, 4:21 PM [ in reply to This isn’t going to only affect SC as other ]

I'm not sure about that. The reasoning wasn't the appropriateness or inappropriateness of witness signature requirements but rather making the change so close to an election:

"This Court has repeatedly emphasized that federal courts ordinarily should not alter state election rules in the period close to an election," Justice Brett Kavanaugh in explaining the court's decision.

"By enjoining South Carolina's witness requirement shortly before the election, the District Court defied that principle and this Court's precedents."

Tempest in a teapot. The only precedent is federal courts should stay out of state election business close to an election.

Having said that look at Texas. The Governor ordered that ALL ballot drop off boxes be removed except for 1 in each county. One Texas County has 4.7 million people in it. I think Governor Abbott is going to lose this one easily. It is clearly an attempt at voter suppression. Or as my Grandma called it "cheating".

Are you asking if SC had to have a witness to sign a mail in ballot?
