Urban "Liar" final thoughts

Aug 6, 2018, 10:18 AM

Let's go ahead and dive into the meat and potatoes of this whole Urban Meyer situation. The fact remains that he openly lied several times to the media about the situation in 2015. He knew that his coach was abusing his spouse and did nothing. However, the fact remains that he has a zero level of integrity, and yet he's supposed to be a pillar of the community in Ohio. To add salt to the wounds, his obnoxious fanbase is holding rallies to support a man who has a long history of allowing abuse and displaying dishonesty. The bigger invisible elephant in the room would be the treatment of his players in Florida. Many of them have permanent injuries from abusive techniques that had nothing to do with the game of football. He should be fired, blacklisted, and possibly investigated for criminal abuse. I for one have zero respect for him, and would love to see him fade away in forgotten history like that dirt bag Woody Hayes.

Just realize how blessed and fortunate we are to have the coaches that we have. GO TIGERS!

Must be a BIG14 thing to rally around disgraced HC's, remember at PED ST. ,the riots from students and fans? I sasy Big14 because there are 14 Institutions in the Conference. Must not number well up there. Something is way fishy as one does not put a HC on leave if said HC followed ALL protocols in reporting. In the end I see the AD,Title IX and HC being gone over this .Urban was way too emphatic in his saying he knew nothing.

Chesty, you sound very much like many of the sports writers I hear on the radio. No need for the other side of the story or some actual facts. Just Meyers head on a stick is all you are looking for. This is the problem in this country. Everyone rally around the “victim” without the other sides defense. You sound like a man of the left, but I suppose you’re entitled to an opinion, albeit an incorrect one.

At least you’re smart enough to appreciate our fan base, because you’re right there. We are blessed to have such a tight knit and passionate base.

Umm, what part of he DENIED EMPHATICALLY knowing anything about the 2015 incident do you not grasp. WHY would they put him on leave IF he followed all required protocols? As to Chesty being on the left, I seriously doubt it , but you sir are a deluded. Yes , he is innocent until proven guilty BUT his lies cast serious doubt on anyhting he says right now. His letter dropped in conjunction with Smith's interview is also way to much of a coincidence to be not taken with a skeptical eye. McMurphy is holding a lot of documents and waiting for either Urban or Smith to speak and drops them to nuke anything they say. How does one get around Smith admitting he stangled her? How does Meyer get around sending his consigliere to get her to drop charges in 2009? How come the cops now refuse to release documents related to the 2015 incident? In final if this was anyone but Urban Meyer's second fathers grandson would he still have been employed? Not very dang likely !

Yea, but everything Chesty said is factually correct. You sound more like a man on the left because you are operating on feelings: "I think, I feel, I believe".... Sorry, your coach is trash, and the fanbase is even trashier at this point for supporting someone that covers for an abuser.

I've always liked Urban Meyer. Even though he hasn't always shown the best judgement in the past, he's always seemed like a decent man. However, whether you believe that keeping Zach Smith on staff the last three years was right or wrong (dead wrong in my opinion), there is NO WAY to excuse what He did last month, even if it is determined by the independent investigation that he followed reporting protocols. To stand in front of the media and openly, emphatically lie about what you knew, and then impugn the integrity of the journalist who reported the story ("I don't know who creates a story like that.") is reprehensible. Being exposed by the copies of the text messages to his own wife left Meyer with a choice of throwing either her or Gene Smith (AD) under the bus (which is not much of a choice). Urban's subsequent explanation for lying was not only not credible (that he was caught off-guard by questions about a high-profile firing that happened 36-hours earlier), his unwillingness to forthrightly acknowledge that he lied ("I used the wrong words...") really demonstrates a lack of integrity. My guess is if OSU chooses to retain him (and only if he followed reporting protocols), they will fine him heavily and suspend him for x-number of games in hopes that enough of the public accepts that as sufficient punishment. I don't think it will work.

Not saying I’m a fan of Meyer, but he’s been unfairly accused and (prosecuted) by the media. What are they gonna say if the story and screenshots end up being fake? Then what? It will have been ok to fire the coach because he properly reported what was deemed a non issue by the police? I understand that people that don’t like Meyer would be fine with that, but it doesn’t make it right.

The real fact is that we don’t have any facts. We have screenshots and a story given by an angry ex wife. Her timing with bringing this to the media is suspect and nothing she’s shown can be taken for absolute fact yet. When abs if those things become fact, then he should surely be fired.

EETigerStrip:

I'm as far right as they get. His tenure as a head coach has left a trail of abuse and players who have endured medical issues that were neglected under his tenure at Florida. He would also extort his players in Florida and make them do drills that were dangerous and had nothing to do with the game of football what so ever. One guy had his quadricep muscles rupture over his shenanigans and they called the man a sissy for seeking medical attention. Another player caught a staph infection in his shoulder and they refused to allow him to seek medical attention and as a result almost lost his arm and his life. Even when the doctor confirmed that the player would need surgery to remove the infection and damaged tissue, the coaching staff still mocked him in front of the team, and degraded him as a sissy. If any of our coaches were doing this sort of mess, I'd drive to their house in a U-Haul and pack their bags for them. For the record, most Marines aren't leftwing at all. Quite the opposite as a matter of fact.

I searched the interwebs and didn't find anything, but maybe my search capabilities aren't very good.

Chesty, I’m sorry if I offended you. I’m sure we’d get along just fine at tailgate. Before anything else, thank you for your service to this country.

Without going on and on about something I am not familiar with, I did see that video from last week with th Florida players. Again, I’m not sure that’s all factual and I definitely believe that you could round up some disgruntled ex-players from ANY coach in America if they thought there was a payday in sight.

Regarding this story with Meyer, I’ve read some insider info (linked here on Tnet) pointing to the fact that the smiths were both raging alcoholics with major Issues. Also that the photos release may have been from the 2009 incident, not 2015. All I’m saying here is there is another side of the story here. Let the facts come out in this investigation before damning the man. I know how we’d feel if these SJW from the left came after Dabo in this scenario.....full support until proven guilty. If Meyer knew and covered up, good riddence. If not, Ohio state has made the right choice in investigating.

If he did in fact know about it and reported it up the chain then the witch hunt needs to stop. He can not be expected to fire an employee based on hearsay. If Smith wasn't charged and he did in fact report it then he did the right thing and what he was obligated to do.

IF he correctly reported it to the higher ups

Aug 6, 2018, 11:43 AM

Don't you think OSU would have released a statement by now saying that he had? Reporting an incident seems very cut and dry to me: you make the report, they have a record of it, you can't be accused of wrong-doing in the future.

Where the hell is the record of Meyer reporting the abuse? If it exists, it would have to come to light by now. The fact that it hasn't is a terrible look for him and doesn't bode well for his future.

During investigations you don't release anything until the investigation is over. These things have protocols just as reporting incidents have protocols. This isn't facebook where you just willy nilly post stuff and call out people.

If he did report up the chain and higherups did nothing

Aug 6, 2018, 2:28 PM [ in reply to IF he correctly reported it to the higher ups ]

then I would say it's an even worse situation for OSU. Better for them if Meyer didn't follow protocol.

If how you describe Meyer's action were true, what possible motive would he have for openly lying and impugning McMurphy's integrity? Why did he wait to reverse himself only after the text messages to his wife were released? This is no "witch hunt".

Re: Urban "Liar" final thoughts

Aug 6, 2018, 1:49 PM

Well he lied BEFORE McMurphy's report. I imagine if he wasn't prepared to discuss and didn't want to discuss he took the easy road and just said he had no knowledge of it. Lying to the media isn't a fireable offense. That's why I say if he's telling the truth that he reported it, it should end there.

Osu would do anything more than some sort of suspension.

Methinks the delay is osu hoping the pc crowd moves on .

Re: If it was a just a case of "lying" I doubt

The delay is because OSU has turned the investigation over to an outside commission. Per SI: "The Ohio State University Board of Trustees on Thursday announced that it was convening an “independent board and working group” to investigate how the university responded to the allegations. The board will include two prominent legal figures—former acting U.S. Deputy Attorney General Craig Morford and former U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of Ohio Carter Stewart—as well as former Ohio Speaker of the House Jo Ann Davidson and three OSU trustees (Alex Fischer, Janet Porter and Alex Shumate)."

Urban needs to go. Period. Give him and Zach the Woody award...

His intentional "lies" are a part of the culture where pedophiles and abusers are protected in the B10. He looked the other way and then lied about it. He does not have to "fire" someone on the first text message but rather support a inquiry/suspended until more information is found. If he did that, fine but once that is made public and a decision is rendered, why lie about it? That stinks...

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

To date the only thing for certain that most of us know

Aug 6, 2018, 2:02 PM

about this case is that Urban made false statements to the media following a question during the B1G days about the 2015 incident, and frankly, lying to the media doesn't seem to be near the big deal that it would have been just a few years ago all things considered. It's kind of a new norm.

Is Mrs. Smith bat-#### crazy? Was she calling 911 every other day because she was off her rocker? Were her injuries from Zach in fact self defense actions from Zach? Have the Meyers been protecting Zach from spousal abuse from her and, since he's a dude, been overly secretive because, let's face it, kind of embarrassing for a FB coach to be abused by his wife?

The answers to the above are likely not in Zach's favor, but until that crucial side of the story is revealed, soon, who really knows what was going on?
