Meyer/Smith story

Aug 4, 2018, 9:55 AM

While one is presumed innocent until proven guilty , one cannot overlook what has come out and HOW it has come out. Do any of you believe this would have seen the light of day if not for McMurphy had not gotten on the story? Do any of you actually believe Urban , a man that has spent most of his adult life interacting with the media on a large stage simply froze? If Urban actually did report it as he claimed in the letter this could all have been avoided by him saying that when it was brought to his attention he followed ALL reporting protocols as required. Nope, he said he never heard about it, kinda agitatedly to boot. In truth from my perspective this will take down not only Urban but several folks in the AD office . I found it strange that Smith's attorney said he would only speak once sworn in to testify but somehow in conjunction with Urban's letter he chose to do an interview? Hmmm, not one to believe in that coincidence myself and it does seem like it was worked out together. It seems that both in trying to get ahead in the media perception should have remained silent as once they both spoke, McMurphy dropped a text where Smith admits to strangling the ex wife in Punta Cana. Currently watching this unfold both Urban and Smith seem to have brought a pop gun to a war zone and have managed to only shoot themselves in the head. It is painfully obvious that McMurphy has a lot of written ,documetably items that he tosses out once Urban and Smith utter a word, both of them need far better legal advice as they are only gut hooking themselves. McMurphy is playing 3D chess while Urban,Smith a tOSU are playing tiddlywinks. Also toss in that Smith is Earle Bruces grandson, do any of you think if it was anyone else he would not have been let go a long time ago in 2009 at UF and never hired at tOSU? tOSU is dealing with a feces storm on several fronts currently and it will not surprise me at all to see a clean sweep in the Athletics department with many heads rolling out of town.

I use to play with young GrandDaughters with one that fired soft ping bong type balls & we laughed our heads off, when they zoomed by or actually hit us in the head.

I'm torn on this and all incidents like this. After listening to Zack Smiths interview I think he is a lier and a women beater. He should be fired and serve some jail time. But as far as Urban goes, I just feel he is like a lot of men in that he feels it is none of his business. Let the higher ups deal with it. Now he froze and didn't know what to say when asked and made the poor choice to lie. But why punish him for another man beating his wife? If he truly let the AD and BOD deal with the situation then I don't see why everyone is after his head.

Now if it comes out that he was trying to protect Zack Smith and he absolutely knew that Zack beat his wife then yeah he needs to be fired. But all I have to go on is what has been reported. I guess we'll find out more after this investigation.

Umm, Urban sent his consigliere to speak with her in 2009 to drop the charges, so he knew then. Urban's wife had 2015 photos and said she was afraid of Smith. Not to hard to connect the dots i would say.

Yeah. There comes a point where "giving another chance" becomes "enabling".

I do understand loyalty. I do understand the desire to try to protect a guy you're loyal to, especially since his grandfather had been your mentor. But...you also have to understand that just because it's a boy's club at work, there is a larger world out there and your guy is responsible for his conduct off it...that has always seemed to be Urban's big problem, that he tolerates conduct from both his coaches and players off the field that he himself would not tolerate on it. His UF locker room had some very good players...and some problems with some very bad actors.

At the end of the day, you can't have a Repeat Offender wife-beater as a part of your staff...and you have to loop in administration and make sure the team, the program, and the University are covered...or unfortunately you become complicit in those misdeeds.

Maybe he did that. Urban's released statement and the interview given with Smith yesterday both claim so. But he'd also better be able to produce a paper or text trail...and if there isn't one, Urban's absolutely going to be fired. The larger problem is that Urban already got caught barefacedly lying to the press about it once, which casts great suspicion on his revised statement that the University was indeed actually looped in...I really do question that. Was OSU's AD made fully aware of both the incident in 2015 and 2009? It just doesn't pass the sniff test that OSU would knowingly keep a guy on staff after his second incident...because they'd fear exactly this situation, where it would blow up in their faces that the University had knowingly retained him even knowing he had a history of spousal abuse.

Urban himself might get that level of protection because of politics...but it just seems highly suspect that OSU's AD would take that risk for a guy who was just a position coach. It seems far more likely they'd quietly unload him. Which would seem to suggest that Urban is still lying.

We'll see about this, but on the face of it, this seems like Urban might be cynically performing an act of contrition - and blame-shifting - to salvage his reputation knowing that the University is about to fire him. Which might imply that either 1) he's trying to win the public-relations battle, or 2) he knows he's done with OSU, but is already thinking ahead to his next gig...or both.

While I concede your point I was not aware this was English 101 either. Did not intend it to be so long but once started, it kinda snowballed.
