16 cents on 4th of July BBQ plus 2 cents on gas

Dec 29, 2021, 9:04 AM

= 18 cents and people still want to complain

That seems like odd phrasing

Dec 29, 2021, 9:10 AM

Directly, demand increase certainly caused an increase in the price. I suppose increase in demand for gas could be a sign of an improving economy. But it's not a causal relationship.

Demand is down compared to 2019.

Dec 29, 2021, 9:21 AM

The loss of energy independence and relying on OPEC is driving prices up.

Yes, I'm sure that's true.

Dec 29, 2021, 9:39 AM [ in reply to Demand is down compared to 2019. ]

Demand increased price, and decrease in supply also decreases price.

*increases price, sorry.***

US oil production is up 2021 vs 2020....

Dec 29, 2021, 1:37 PM [ in reply to Demand is down compared to 2019. ]

but not back to 2019 levels.

What's not clear to me is how the federal government policy in 2021 is directly keeping production levels down.

I hear the pause on new federal oil leases cited a lot, but that's just new leases, not existing leases.

Uptick in demand. Decrease in supply.

Dec 29, 2021, 1:15 PM [ in reply to That seems like odd phrasing ]

And the US blocking a bunch of future supply and strangling competitive alternatives like natural gas.

And the high oil prices have lead to burning more coal which the greenies love. Let’s cut off oil and burn coal to save the planet. Wait, wut?

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Wait...how has the increase in oil prices led to burning...

Dec 29, 2021, 1:29 PM

more coal?

The rising crude prices pulled natural gas prices up with them. When natural gas gets too expensive, lots of industry switches back to coal.

I'm not an expert on this, but I didn't think the US...

crude oil and natural gas production was that inter-linked. Certainly not like Brazil and other countries where the production of the 2 is so mixed together.
