ESPN has finally jumped the shark

May 3, 2015, 7:01 AM

Well it probably occurred a while back but....From their clown pundits with NFL draft analysis, to their post coverage on set bickering of MayPac fight, to their parading of half brain dead boxers who can barely form a sentence, to lastly their uppity women "journalists" who are on "TV" and do not need to show respect to the those around them yet demand equal treatment.

The time has come for a rival, like a previous poster said, stat.

Time for a GoFundMe page.

??

There might not be 1 rival, but there are alternatives

May 3, 2015, 8:23 AM

in most areas. MLB network, NLF network, NBA TV, NHL network, NBC sports (hockey, and soccer), and then the FSN channels too. It's pretty easy to stay away from ESPN for everything except games that they have broadcast rights for if you want to.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

this is my route...

May 3, 2015, 10:40 AM

care nothing about NBA, soccer, women's sports, tennis. Not even a big NFL fan (I watch games, but I don't care for the mind-numbing analysis). SportsCenter does not register on my TV-watching radar with all their fluff and tripe. I don't even recognize the hosts when I happen by it from time to time.

I like MLB/college baseball, college football/basketball, and PGA golf. And a NASCAR race from time to time. So I watch MLB Network, Golf Channel, and whatever is showing college sports (yeah, ESPNU admittedly). ESPN is good for live sports, "30 for 30", and a couple other random shows from time to time.

so what exactly are your suggestions for ESPN improvements?

May 3, 2015, 8:44 AM

You outlined what they do wrong. So what should they do to make is better? If you were head of ESPN (or Disney), what would you change? Specifics please. For example, what shows/hosts/content would be better the draft. And what full brain boxers we're available last night?

These aren't rhetorical questions. But people always birch about ESPN but don't say what they would do _ only what they wouldn't. Keep in mind the end goal is to have viewers so you can sell ad space to keep the Disney shareholders happy.

May 3, 2015, 10:41 AM

so do i and it is people like you who are paranoid and complain about a network that YOU pay for and WATCH. think about that for a minute, is there any logic in that at all? use your remote and watch something else! the only reason people here complain about espn and other sports media outlets is that it is not all clemson and all positive about the tigers. maybe someone can put together a clemson network like texas and then you can get 24 hour positive tiger coverage.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

humbly request, before you go putting words in my mouth

May 3, 2015, 12:11 PM

yes I pay for it bc of "sports channels", namely golf channel and other fox sports channels. I actually do "uncheck" the boxcar it to show up on my favs unless I know a particular game I wanted to watch is only on their network.

To answer the first question, which is a good one, I'd personally focus on the positive of sports. Not continually try to create drama or have an agenda to force a particular negative subject matter, team's position, or politics to create the viewers. Yes call me old fashioned but negativity breeds negativity. I'm sure I would not be the highest rated network, but my network would instill values that a lot of successful business people have built their reputation on. (Just like a lot of the fellow posters and readers on this site).

As far as boxers, fair point, but perhaps old ring coaches or refs might have been better for that particular subject matter.

Just my two cents, but your opinion is very much acknowledged and appreciated. Thanks for the replies!

ESPN is every fans (doesn't matter which team or conference) biggest enemy now. If you read many message board you'll find this to be true.

We Americans always seem to try and take down the top dog after he's been there awhile.

It's just the natural order of things for us.

Focus on the game. What the great athletes do during the game. The great plays.
Leave the off field, non- sport activities to dr Phil, judge Judy, entertainment tonight and the 24 hour talking news heads.

May 3, 2015, 1:45 PM

focus on USING the remote. i would say espn and disney are PRETTY successful at being good business people, just not all clemson tiger network.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

With due respect.

May 3, 2015, 2:16 PM

I believe I said I don't tune into them. I don't have them listed on the channels.

That's pretty much "using" My remote to make my choice.

I'm not asking them to be "everything" Tigers either, which you continue to assume, but what a great idea. You should start the GoFundMe page. ??

Again thx for your thoughts.

Enjoy the weekend!

The 21st century hasn't passed him by , the lady who lives in this century who showed her tactlessness and embarrassed herself while being filmed is the one who should be worried about being " passed by " .
Manners , common decency and compassionate understanding for others' social statuses are not outdated concepts .

May 3, 2015, 9:09 PM

that basically disrespected the tow truck driver cashier.

She absolutely came across as "uppity". "I'm on TV".

Probably didn't make my point and should have used "journalist".

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Rarely watch ESPN anymore unless

May 4, 2015, 9:11 AM

it is a game. There are so many other options out there for sports info and sports talk. Unless you just want to #### yourself off, I don't know why a person would subject themselves to College Football Daily, Gameday, Screaming A and Ballsless, etc, etc.....you know the narrative they work off of.
