It is late July in South Carolina. Who lied to you and told you that it would be balmy this time of year?

I keep trying to convince my wife to move up to NH

Jul 29, 2022, 10:42 AM

We've both lived all our lives in the South - me in SC and FL and her in VA and SC. I'm tired of the heat and humidity. Gotten to where I absolutely hate it now. Would like to try the other end of the extreme and get into some milder summers and see how I do in the winters. Would love to get into winter hiking, snow shoeing, snow mobiling or 4-wheeling, and some skiing. Give me cold any day over hot. You can always bundle up more in the winter, but there's only so much you can do in the summer!

55 and foggy today in San Francisco. It's like this all summer. Strangely, the summer-like weather is in the fall. Even then, rarely gets over 75.

Yep, all week the entire nation has be red on the morning weather report except for SF which is green and 68 degrees.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Coldest winter ever experienced was a summer in SanFran

I'll keep the heat and humidity of the South over the craziness of California and SF in particular these days.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: I keep trying to convince my wife to move up to NH

Jul 29, 2022, 11:47 AM

There were 200 cars stolen in a week last in Charlotte. Craziness is every where.

California on the news is a lot different than when you get there in person.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Not really. SF was a freakshow when I was there 15 years ago

Jul 29, 2022, 12:24 PM

Its way worse now.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I loved SF. Staying at the Cow Hollow across from Mel's

Jul 29, 2022, 1:51 PM

Diner. After work, go for a run through Great Meadow Park at Fort Mason and down the hill to the Aquatic Park and out onto the Pier looking out over the Bay at Alcatraz and the Golden Gate Bridge. Playing pickup basketball at Moscone Park.

After that, lot's of great restaurants of all kinds within a short walk. I probably visited about 2 dozen times for work and loved it.

You forgot to mention all the piles of poop that you either stepped in or jumped over during your "run" after work.

We spent 2018 and 2020 in the Dartmouth area and this year just West of the North end of the Blue Ridge Parkway (Shenandoah Valley Virginia area) and it's only gotten in the 90s two or three times so far. Snowed once in May. They say don't plant anything until May.

Jul 29, 2022, 12:27 PM [ in reply to I keep trying to convince my wife to move up to NH ]

Ive had enough of the south. 5+ months out of the year are just intolerable from the never ending heat & humidity, bugs, allergies, traffic, crowds....just all of it is awful.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Amen brother. It's the humidity. Suffocating.***

Used to stay at my grandmothers in late July/ August back in the 70's in the midlands. No A/C just box fans back then. Seemed as hot as it does now. I am close to her age and couldn't take it now. She was tough as nails and never had any idea what it was like to have central A/C.

Its not like you can open the windows and get relief. Just constantly being in that hot, sticky air. Imagine trying to sleep in that mess. Ugh, hell on earth man.
