Our top 3 rb's are 2 Soph. and 1 Jr. Top rb's in high school want to play immediately. They would have to come in next year and ride the pine or play very limited snaps. I think that CJ will crush it next year when the numbers line up.

Yet Bama has commits from the #2 and #3 RBs in this class plus the transfer from GT and a room full of other highly rated backs so your theory which is often repeated does not hold water.

We're the 2nd best program in the last decade, with no transfers.
Coaching is the difference.

What makes you think our coaches aren't thinking the same thing. They wanted a good rb and unfortunately they couldn't make it happen and will need to get 2 next year. This is one of those times that a good transfer becomes available after this season.

Clemson recruits by area, not by position. CJ is not the only coach responsible for RB recruiting. It's up to the staff as a whole to identify, recruit, and close on recruits.

A) Sitting back watching CJ flounder at recruiting RBs, but is not getting involved himself, while the team is being hurt in the long run.
B) Not viewing RB as a critical need this cycle. There were recruits we offered, and would have taken if everything worked out just right, but next year's class is viewed as the critical class, and those players have been evaluated and are being recruited aggressively as we speak.
C) Unaware that he nor CJ are able to recruit effectively at this time.

Do you have any first hand knowledge of what our staff has planned for the running back position? Do you have any first hand knowledge of the conversations that have gone on between our staff and 2024 recruits? Do you have any first hand knowledge of conversations between Dabo and CJ (your apparent target) regarding expectations?

They found Andrew Paul late last year and he ended up at UGA. Safe to say there are some underrated RBs out there that are relatively unknown. I believe we will likely offer 2 more. If we miss on them, I see us signing Jarvis Green from Dutch Fork.

Are we setting our sights too high? Other than CJ himself (and maybe Etienne who fell in our lap) how many of our RBs over the past 15 years have been top 10 at their position? I don't think Ellington, McDowell or Choice were. Feaster was but for whatever reason never seemed to become "the Man." Heck Wayne Gallman was arguably our most successful running back between Spiller and Etienne and I am not even sure he was recruited as a RB.

Maybe we should just focus on the diamond in the rough type guy. It’s been great for us in the past and the highly rated guys haven’t really worked out (Feaster, Bellamy, Bowman, etc…)

I posted this the other day but it bears repeating. There are 22 uncommitted RBs in the top 100 per 247. Of these 22 zero ( 0 ) have Clemson listed in their final group. The lack of interest in and of itself is curious to me. Something is out of sorts with the perception of playing RB at Clemson. I'm sure Dabo is a heluva lot more aware of what's going on than myself. But to the casual onlooker like myself it's discouraging. Hopefully this current stable of studs and our renewed focus on the offensive line will change the dynamic

Yep, but I would bet that even if Rueben Owens, 5 star from Texass, or Richard Young, 5 star from Florida were Clemson fans, neither of them wouldn't be crazy about coming to Clemson and competing against Shipley, Mafah, or Pace for playing time, plus they would probably only get mop duty time if they had come to Clemson....

At this point, I think it would be best to let things play out over the next few months. Coaching changes always present recruiting opportunities come late November/December. I would prefer this rather than reach on a mediocre back.

Dabo might want to get in Burton Burns ear. He was released by the Giants and is currently retired. May not necessarily replace CJ on a full-time capacity but perhaps as an advisor and recruiter. Just a thought.

Look at our history at the position. Clemson has never had a Heisman winner. We won the national championship with Gallman and Etienne. Running back by committee has been commonplace. This is not unusual for us and not anything that I see as a huge concern.
