Coaching rumors and Twitter "reporters"

Nov 30, 2021, 9:14 AM

I think something important people need to remember when it comes to rumors is that we see this type of thing every year. Some "reporter" usually on Twitter will report a coaching hire is final and will usually take something like the Oklahoma press conference yesterday and use that to suggest the press conference is to name a new head coach.

The press conference actually happening gives them credibility in the eyes of some, and at least drives a lot of people to their posts and gains them a lot of new followers. Even a large percentage of people who later realize they were full of crap won't think to go back and hit unfollow.

When the hire doesn't happen the way they claim it's easy for them to say the coach changed his mind, or at least asked for additional time to finalize the deal or something. Maybe they can even claim the university stalled the hire because another big name showed interest at the last second which leads to more people following this "reporter" in order to get the next big update.

These "reporters" will take a realistic name like BV because if he does end up actually getting hired then the "reporter" can later be shown as being highly creditable because they were the first one to report the hire. This is the case even if the "reporter" knew nothing more than the average person and just happened to get lucky by throwing out the name of the eventual right hire.

Even if they end up wrong in the end then most people will end up forgetting about it in the end, they will have still gained a ton of new followers, and can just claim that someone changed their mind.

yes that is how it works.. BUT it isn't just for coaching rumors.. IT IS FOR ALL MEDIA today.
U just need 1 fact or just 1 thing that seems logical and then go on your agenda.

Twitter is just a game people play to get clicks. That's all.
