That annoyingly loud chugging sound when you crank up?
Rhodium.
That sawed-off gap between your engine and muffler?
Rhodium.
Twenty grand an ounce that sh#t goes for, and there's a couple hundred worth in every catalytic converter in every car and truck on the road.
Rhodium. Mined overseas by slave labor and sold in the U.S. for heroin and meth. Ain't globalism grand?

You forgot the platinum and palladium
Now do your cell phone
Are you suggesting we should do without any technology for which the raw materials are not available domestically?

more on the human rights side of things instead of constantly pounding climate change. I would like to see those billions in climate change money going towards stopping human trafficking and child slave labor.

The prime violators tend to be the same...climate impact and human rights. That said, it's on the consumption side of the equation to limit/halt purchases from those source nations; i.e., stop being the 'junkies of cheaper'.

slave labor in the OP.
With the stroke of a pen some beaurocrat mandates catalytic converters on all cars. World scrambles to make them, slave labor in other countries comes to the rescue. Now we can feel better driving our cars around all day without smog. Until the meth heads steal them for scrap money anyway.
Same thing with the second Lake Murray ###. Some beaurocrat with a pen decided it had to be able to withstand an 8.0 earthquake. So SCE&G had to spend $100 million building a second daam.
Bureaucrats with pens run the country, not the politicians. Politicians just get to pick the bureaucrats. And once installed, even politicians have trouble getting rid of them.

The catalytic converter was added to meet the requirements of the clean air act which passed the senate without a nay vote. Only one representative voted against it in the house.
Catalytic converters do nothing to reduce carbon dioxide emissions, but they do cut carbon monoxide (which will kill you) and nitrous oxides which were killing the lakes.
This is 100% from the legislative branch. I remember baby #### brown skys and and glad they are gone.
