Dems simply benefitted from running against an egomaniac who badly miscalculated and didn't know when to shut his mouth, and a totally biased mainstream media who almost universally campaigned for one candidate over another. Biden/Harris did not win because they captured the hearts and minds of their fellow Americans who fervently supported the cause. Rather, the people that voted dem hated that loudmouth bastage Trump and did what they had to do to get rid of him. That was pretty much the campaign, the whole platform. Now, here we are.

If reality is reduced to images on a flat screen, and if the message is constantly how bad everything is, and if worded in the form of existential threats (collusion with enemy, 'assault on democracy', 'fascist', etc), and it comes at us every day, all day, 365, some percentage of folks will vote that way, go along with it, to make it go away. Affect 10-15%, you have a landslide.
Trump gave them the opportunity, no question. But it got laughable. We had covid in the US, the message was, because he tweeted mean things about masks. Trump = covid. Hear that sort of thing enough, at 110 decibels, even something as blatantly false as that, and some folks will go along to stop the fearful message.
Just a thought.
