Clemson vehicle plates have a new design.

Just got word of this, and it looks terrible. Why would you change this? Who approved this new design with less orange? Did the S.Car tags get changed too? I guess I'll be reverting to the basic SC tags when my plates expire on my truck and car now...

Supposedly by 2018 nearly all plates will have the same basic design.

Aug 3, 2015, 6:22 PM

White background, black letters, and one thin red stripe and one blue stripe at the top. On the regular plates, whatever design that is chosen will be on the left also. Go figure......

leave it to shamecock fans to cost our state a fortune. They already eat up our tax dollars with their ebt cards and welfare checks and now they complained about the plates which will cost millions to replace. Good job #####. I know you're used to shedding those tears but I'd rather save our already poor state some money that whine about the colors of a license plate

Agreed. The current regular plate was chosen after an online vote.

Aug 3, 2015, 6:33 PM

Not our fault lots of Coots don't know what "online" means.

Wow. This is the first I've heard about it.

Do you have any more backstory about the change? Is it supposed to be a cost saving measure, or what was the impetus behind it?

Two drivers. Complaints about the color and law enforcement.

Aug 3, 2015, 6:36 PM

Said they can't get the tag numbers at night.

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I'll probably just get a regular tag now and put a Tiger Paw

Aug 3, 2015, 7:04 PM

sticker on it over the "new design".

But now that I think about it, I'm pretty sure that is against the law, "improper display" or some BS like that...

many of the tag designs were difficult to read is the reason for the change. I think they look cleaner and crisper and the paw pops out from a distance. I have The Citadel one and our tag logo is B&W, so you cant tell what it is from a distance. By May 2016, all SC tags will look like this.

Blame the cops

Various police organizations pushed for this so that the stop light cameras can read tags better.

Next round they'll just put GPS trackers in every car and mail you a ticket whenever you go over the speed limit.

Don't give them any ideas about the GPS.

military_donation.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Yeah, employers already do this on company cars;

Aug 3, 2015, 7:07 PM

pretty soon I'm sure "big brother" will be tracking our speed and sending fines out by email.

Or deducting them automatically via the IRS like they do when you don't sign up for Obamacare.

They'll send the fines by snail mail

gotta keep the USPS afloat somehow.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Nobody is going to redesign my plate.

Aug 3, 2015, 8:23 PM

I'v a Tennessee personal tag that says CLEMSON. I need to find a paw sticker to go inside the O.

in between we had the one with the miniature paw. It was bad but this is worse.

Aug 3, 2015, 8:34 PM
