Two-a and his lack of read progression

Jan 9, 2019, 12:24 PM

Admittedly I'm going off a 1 game sample, but a glaring weakness of Two-as seems to be an inability to progress his reads. He knows who he is going to pre-snap and if it's not there, he holds on to the ball until it becomes open. Both ints, he made up his mind where he was going pre snap and got fooled by our disguised coverage. That brutal sack by Mullens(how did he survive?!), he never took his eye off his primary receiver. Has anyone that has seen more of him noticed this?

I'm not sure he had time to make reads.

We were pressuring him all night. I think that's more from our DL and their dominance rather than some weakness he has. I'd bet against a Vandy or USC he could make all of his checks, order a pizza, wash a load of clothes, take a shower, shave, and then pass the ball. We made him uncomfortable like he's never been snapping the ball at Bama. It was us messing with him with cloud coverage, bringing pressure, and basically disrupting him more than he's ever been disrupted before.

Our defense sent him false signals.

Our keys, the players he watches after the snap, would move in such a manner as to deceive him. That's how you pick a good quarterback.

Imo, Tua isn't as good or as bad as some think but I do not believe he will be in the NFL for very long.

I think that was the result of Coach BV's brilliant approach of screwing up Tua's pre-coached reads.
When the reads you've had beat into your head all season suddenly lead to picks, there's no effective way to adjust. Not even at halftime, because the system is too ingrained in your head. So you have to start thinking instead of reacting as you've been drilled, and you either slow way down, make bad decisions, lock up, or all of the above. And that's what we saw Monday night.
If it points to a weakness in Tua, it's not lack of progression per se, but being consistent and predictable enough all season so CBV could figure out ways to blow him up.
He's still a highly skilled QB and will be a major threat in the future.

His reads told him one thing then other players assisted in confounding his goals. You're right, we screwed his head. That's why I do not believe he will last in the NFL. I think he's as far developed as he can be.

What an NFL team gets when he signs is all they will ever get from him. His passing mechanics could stand a little adjustments but there's not much else fixable.

Mullen out right punked him a couple of times sneaking up to the line. Tua's arrogance is his weakness right now.
