TV Money is in control

May 22, 2012, 7:51 AM

It has been a long four days since the announcement of the Big 12 and SEC bowl game and I don't know what is the best thing for us to do. I know we can't stay in the ACC with the information that we have right now but that doesn't mean I like it. First off I think that the SEC and Big 12 have come to the conclusion that the current bowl situation is the problem and because of all the big money associated with the bowls the playoff system is being blocked. They are taking the bull by the horns and created a bowl game where the conferences get most of the money. I think that is brilliant. Secondly, it appears that a lot of conferences will be left out and I think that is true at this point in time.

The other side of me, my emotional side hates to give up games with our long time rivals. I am 64 years old and have watched Clemson play NC, NCST, Maryland, Wake, Duke, and Virginia for my whole life. There have been some great games and some fun times associated with those games. The year we won the National Championship our toughest game was against North Carolina who was ranked almost as high as we were. Probably the best game I have ever seen. I have also enjoyed playing in the new ACC with Florida State, Virginia Tech, Miami and Boston College. I have enjoyed that also. Just bolting and giving up all of them for money makes me sick at my stomach. I know that we have to but it is like turning your back on your brother because he voted for the guy you didn't like.

I understand, but we can't be sentimental right now. I live

in Atlanta and all media is talking like it is just a fact that there are 4 big-time conferences and then all the rest. The ACC is among all the rest. As crazy as it sounds a conference with VT, Miami, Clemson, FSU is on outside looking in.

We just can't be sentimental and we have to land in one of the 4 majors. As for our rivals that we sadly leave, the will gladly step over our body and take our spot in one of the 4 major conferences if given a chance.

THis is the time to worry about Dear Old Clemson and Clemosn only.

My logical side totally understands what we have to do but that doesn't mean that I have to like it.

potential and geographic fit of the ACC, the rivals, etc.. But it's like having to flee your home when a category 5 hurricane is coming, we don't have the time or luxury of being sentimental.

I do understand your feelings though.
