Rumor is...ACC is really thinking out of the box!...

Nov 13, 2021, 7:31 AM

In a desperate move to get Notre Dame in as a "full time" member in football, the ACC will let ND's annual games with Army and Navy count as conference games in the ACC standings. Notre Dame's conference schedule will consist of sis ACC opponents, plus Army and Navy. Army and Navy aren't joining the ACC.

Along with this move the ACC will go to three "pods" of five teams each! No word yet on how the teams will be divvied up amongst the "pods"!

Word is, former ACC commissioner John Swofford is working behind the scenes, to pull this off! Swofford reportedly said, "This is a really big commitment from Notre Dame, to add one more ACC team annually to their schedule, to make this work!"

Now that just sounds stupid. Let ND pound bricks.

ND only plays Navy Southern Call & Stanford annually not Army***

You are correct! My source must be a little off on the details,,,

Nov 13, 2021, 7:47 AM

Well, I suppose the plan would still work, with Stanford or USC instead of Army. Heck, the ACC may let Notre Dame count Navy, USC and Stanford as conference games, and they won't even have to add a sixth ACC team to their schedule!

You are not off. Just called someone that has inside info

Nov 13, 2021, 8:58 AM

he said you are not off at all. This is all in the discussion phase as of now.

This is what is being discussed

Bringing WV in and ND somewhat all in.

ND will play continue to play Navy every year. In 2 yr increments play either Southern Cal or Stanford (will no longer play both in the same year). These 2 games will count as a ACC conf games for ND.

ACC will SCHEDULE into 3 “defacto” pods. Something like this.

Clemson
FSU
Miami
GT
Wake

UNC
NCST
Duke
UVA
VT

WV
Pitt
Syracuse
BC
Louisville

ND plays 2 teams from each Pod then 1 extra team from a pod count plus Navy & Southern Cal/Stanford as conf games for 9 conf games

Each other team will play their 4 pod teams annually, 2 from other 2 pods and either ND or 1 additional team from another pod for 9 conf games.

ACCCG teams will be based on criteria used during the COVID year.

This will add 2 more games in Conf for ND while allowing them to keep playing Navy, Southern Cal, Stanford for 9 conf games and allows them 3 other OOC games (ex Michigan, Purdue, Texas)

In basketball it gives ACC16 teams and 3 days of 4 games ( then 2, then 1) in ACCBB Tournament.

Say what you want you may not like it but this is what I’m hearing per inquiring after the initial post from a good source. ACC is trying to be proactive.

TV contract would be modified

Nov 13, 2021, 9:07 AM [ in reply to You are not off. Just called someone that has inside info ]

Also said this would enact a TV contract renegotiate. ESPN & NBC have been negotiating to keep ND home games on NBC with possible other Teams home game on NBC and with some BB games. All money would come to ACC for disbursement to all 16 teams.

If Stanford or Southern Cal beats ND do they get to play in the ACCCG? In Swoffie's world they probably would.

I think the ACC will stay at 8 conference games!***

Hey ACC ,here is a better suggestion. Go tell Notre Dame we ain't going to kiss your @$$ any more. Either join .play 8 conference games or just pack your bags.

Re: Rumor is...ACC is really thinking out of the box!...

Nov 13, 2021, 8:08 AM

Assuming this is true (big assumption), I don't think this type of set-up with Notre Dame is workable.

It's putting them at a huge advantage compared to the rest of the conference if they get to count Navy & Army as "conference games". The other 14 institutions should reject something like this.

If ND comes into the ACC for football, they need to come all the way in and play 8 conference games likes the rest of us, and prove they're the best on the field.

And even if this is pulled off, it will be on shaky ground forever, as proof that ND gets special treatment and the rest of us just have to "like" it. Once they're "in", they can blackmail us anytime they want something special, as we'll have proved we'll go along with it.

4 words: Money drives the train.

Everybody will be upset that ND is getting special treatment. But, if it puts 20 million a year in Clemson's coffers, no one will be upset about that.

Re: Rumor is...ACC is really thinking out of the box!...

Why would the ACC go to nine conference games when the SEC may stay at 8 and the Big 10 is considering dropping back to 8?
