Would like some thoughts on this if you feel like offering opinion

May 6, 2021, 10:09 AM

With Trevor going #1 and several QB’s drafted early this year. With that said, what are your thoughts on all these Alabama teams QB’s doing nothing in the NFL ??? Will Mac Jones become the best of them in NFL ???

Mac Jones might be the best if the group, and IMO he will be the best of their recent QB’s. Tua is not getting it done and Miami really needs to move him out while they have such a good defense so they might be able to compete for championship. Jalen Hurts had 1 good game and turned that into benching a QB making 20Mil a year and run outta town lol. He might be starter to begin season but Philly will not be very good with him as QB. McCaron and the others whose names elude me such as the guy in ESPN who is so opinionated, have not even made the league.

Now, saying this helps me understand just how good Alabama has been in the trenches, at RB, at WR. Their line play has been dominant versus everyone except Clemson but they are still better in the trenches on the Oline.

Primary difference I’m with Alabama/Clemson has been offensive line play. I think Clemson is catching up in that category and look forward to seeing drastic improvements in 2021.

Here is to hoping Trevor leads the Jags to winning football and wins a championship in a few years ????. Also hope DW4 is exonerated of all charges and his reputation is not irreversibly damaged. I refrain from judgement based on no actual evidence to this point

Screw Calford.

Now that’s the kind of response I enjoy. Alabama, who gives a rats ### about them lol.

I actually want them to win, for simple reason. Our Tigers can beat them to win it all again. We need that 3rd championship run over them this year. Let’s see what happens and if we can both get to the title game ????

A QB with any skills at all is going to look good at Bama.

May 6, 2021, 10:26 AM

They have a talent advantage over EVERY team they play, each time they step on the field. Add this to the fact that Saban also hires the best of the best as Assistant Coaches, and success happens.

Obviously, this will not be the situation in the NFL. Teams that draft QBs highly are drafting that high because they do NOT have equal talent or coaching, for the most part. In that regard, Jones has lucked into a pretty enviable situation in New England. Belichick didn't suddenly forget how to coach just because Tom Brady left town. He just needs another cerebral QB that fits his style of system, and Scam Newton surely is not it.

For this reason, Mac Jones will be one of the more intriguing QBs to follow coming out of this draft. His success or failure will purely depend on his mental acuity. He will have to make quick decisions, and get the ball out to the right receivers, on time. He does not have the dual threat ability to be able to hold the ball and extend plays. Neither did that Brady guy before him, and HE did ok. :)

Yes!! Jones and Lance landed on teams with the ability to win and win now. Especially Lance, although Jimmy G will be the guy unless he is hurt. That team is strong and most likely to challenge those Brady led Buccaneers ?????. They usually forex not turn out to well for others lol

Hope that the Jaguars can build around Trevor and become a legit contender in a stacked AFC especially if Rodgers comes to Denver or Raiders

For good or bad, it was another Clemson QB who woke up

May 6, 2021, 10:52 AM

guys like Aaron Rodgers. DW4 wanting out of Houston, and the resulting frenzy of teams making trade offers had to make Rodgers, Russell Wilson, and maybe others realize that, just because they are signed to a contract, they have bargaining power to get out of town if they want. That power is the truckload of draft choices that the franchise they are leaving will get in return for them.

I don't know if it will be Rodgers, but pretty soon, SOME star QB is going to be traded, generating that huge draft haul for him. From that point on, the NFL will never be the same again. It will gravitate toward the NBA model, where superstars move around all the time. It already happens in free agency with most positions, but, up till now, if a team thinks they have a true "franchise" QB, they have held onto them. That is about to change. The business end is about to overcome the competition end.

Tua and Hurts were starting last year.

May 6, 2021, 10:46 AM

That being said. It’s easy to look good with a great oline, great receivers, great RBs, and a great coaching. You just need to have decent skills to execute with support like that. Once they move on to the NFL it’s a different monster

Yeah, those muscle thingys are just superfluous accessories. Brain and an arm, brain and an arm, baby, that's all you really need.

Having a Supermodel wife that earns more than you do is a pretty good trick too, if you can pull it off. :)

Fascinating subject ...

May 6, 2021, 11:46 AM

Absolutely Bama is year-in-and-year-out far and away the most talented team on the field in every game with very few exceptions. The Clemson 2018 team was an exception, as was the LSU 2019 championship team. Great teams with great QB's and defenses.

1) Sure. It starts and sometimes ends on the line. Clemson's 2020 O-line and even Defense could not compete against the Buckeyes, and it would have been really ugly vs. Bama.
2) The Clemson 2016 team was superb, and still Bama was better at 15-16 positions. DW4 won that championship with his unreal heart, courage and skill sets, and was almost killed in the process thanks to Reuben Foster, Johnathan Allen and a loaded Bama Defense. Maybe Bama's all-time best. (Nagurski winner Allen said a few weeks after the game that DW4 was the best college player he had ever seen or played against in his college career including in practice. Allen said DW4 was the only QB ever who had not quit against Bama's defense. High praise. It made some Bama folks mad.)
3) I see Tua with top 15 QB potential - he needs to improve the speed of his reads. He is small and prone to injury. I like Mac's potential to be a top 5-8 QB within 2-3 years especially with Brady's coaches - a steal at 15 and better than Tua IMHO. Jalen Hurts is smart and can be an effective backup or short term starter.
4) I'm with you and all in on the Jags with Trevor and ETN. I pull for all Tiger NFL players.
5) As a 1984 grad, who has always loved our Defense even more than O, DW4 has still been my all-time favorite Tiger player for his guts and success turning Clemson into a natl powerhouse.
6) DW4 made some extremely poor judgements, but he will return to the NFL and has the talent to lead a quality team to a Super Bowl. (When healthy he is the 2nd best NFL player behind Mahomes IMHO.) But he's lost his reputation, and $50 million-plus in career marketing opportunities. And he's still immature based upon his tweets featuring bird-flipping girlfriend. Like you, I hope he's exonerated & slowly restores his reputation.

Closer to home, I love Clemson's chances of bring home a championship in 2021 and/or 2022. I'm a big Justin Foster fan, and his return will help the team. Go Tigers!

I'd say having 2 NFL starters and a first rounder just

drafted it pretty successful, by any standard.

Prior to recently though Bama QBs haven't done so well.

Hurts is starter by default because Philly turned their back on 20Mil QB, or maybe the QB turned his back on Philly. Either way he starts on 0 other teams in NFL and after a couple/few games this year he will be out. I even like him but watching him play, no idea how to read a defense or go through progression. It was evident after his first game that he has been figured out.
Tua is NOT a starting QB. He had multiple games last year with less than 100 passing yards. He was a reach and never warranted a top 5 pick, wasted pick by Miami. Small, injury prone, not enough arm for NFL QB. That’s the scouting report, and Miami scooped him up at #5 ??? Hate it for Miami, Christian Wilkins and that defense will never get anywhere because offense is crap!!!

Is this Darla Moore?
Personally I think Kenny "The Snake" Stabler was their best QB in the NFL.
