My oldest daughter's college roommate and best friend was killed in a car crash Friday night/Saturday morning. She was a passenger in a car that was hit head on by a truck travelling the wrong way on the bridge between Bluffton and Hilton Head. It goes without saying that my daughter is crushed as she lost the first friend that she made in college and her roomate of 2 1/2 years, a huge part of her college experience. Her friend had finished her degree a semester early but had decided to wait until spring so she could graduate with her friends. They were 2 of 4 in a small degree program that would be graduating together. My daughter had been looking forward to celebrating her graduation and now I'm sure will be dreading it. As a parent it's frustrating to feel powerless to do anything to help. I can't imagine how her friend's parents and family feel right now. The last thing her friend posted on Facebook on Friday was "I’m about to walk into one of the best chapters of my life & I’m so ready for it".
