Trying to see if Colorado rumors...

8

Apr 15, 2023, 11:24 AM

... have any legs to stand on.

The rumor was CU board of regents will vote on Monday to leave PAC 12. CU AD vehemently denies that rumor saying unequivocally there will be no vote on Monday.

Then I heard that any vote taken by the regents must be in open session and the meeting on Monday was an executive (closed) session.

Then I heard that the topic on leaving the PAC 12 was on the agenda for Monday. Then I heard that the regents would be given the information on Monday and if they were favorable to leaving the PAC 12, they would vote to do so at the next public meeting.

So, I tried to track it down. Here is what I found -
1. There is a closed session meeting on Monday.
2. The only item on the agenda is "Legal advice on a specific matter - athletic matters." (Link provided below)
3. There is a public meeting set for April 27th.

I can see how it is possible that the board could be getting all the info on Monday, and then vote to leave on 4/27. Not saying it will happen, just saying it could. I will not be surprised no matter how it ends up. But, I would lean toward thinking that the regents will vote to leave PAC 12 on the 27th.

Here is a cut and paste of the agenda for the notification of the meeting on Monday. You have to click on the meeting and then clock on agenda to get to the agenda.

Here is a cut and paste of the agenda.

********
RESOLVED that the Board of Regents go into executive session. As permitted by section 24-6-402 (3), Colorado Revised Statutes, the board will discuss the following matter as announced and pursuant to the subsection as listed below:
- (a)(II), Legal advice on a specific matter - athletics matters
**********

I post this because I think the sooner there is more action on teams leaving conferences and joining other conferences, the sooner ACC teams (specifically FSU and Clemson) will leave.

I appreciate brettfsu for sharing this bit of info. Like it or not, additional conference realignment is an extremely important event relating to Clemson Athletics.

We appreciate you keeping is up to date on this matter. Just crazy that Colorado could possibly leave the Big 12 and re-join them all in a matter of like 12 years. What an insane time this is. Of course I am interested because I would like the B1G to add Oregon and Washington. I dont think that happens till this Big 12 stuff goes down - if it ever does. Funny that the Big 12’s saving grace is having schools that nobody really wants. Yeah they have some teams that are ok, but the networks really don't value them highly so they likely stay together. The opposite is true in the ACC. Some highly desirable schools that are held hostage by the grant of rights. Once that is resolved, all hell is going to break loose.

Why do you think they want to leave the PAC 12 for the Big XII?

Both conferences have key members leaving, so neither seems more stable than the other right now.

Is the potential payout larger in the Big XII?

They are eager to play the new Group of Five schools in the Big 12? Must be that fake 2017 Natty sign at UCF's stadium.

If the money is more, they have consider it. Depends on how much of a difference it is. Also, they won’t jump without AZ, ASU and UT.

Plus, the Pac 12 isnt stable at all. It would seem that Oregon and Washington are ready to leave. Without them, the Pac12 is much less valuable on a per team basis than the Big12. Colorado, Az, Az St and Utah would rather be on the 3rd best conference (assuming the ACC blows up) than being left out or forming some conference of rejects.

Big 12 seems more stable than PAC 12 now.

And, that means more money for leaving than staying.

CU is Clemson University and nothing else

Your post was confusing. Why would Clemson leave the PAC 12 when Clemson isn't even in the PAC 12?
