goes on a rant against Rep. Elijah Cummings (D) and uses the info from Fox to make the point that it's somehow Cummings fault. He's mad at Cummings because he chairs the House Oversight Committee and he actually attempts Oversight. So Trump no likey Elijah and as usual, uses colorful language like "No human being would want to live in such a rat and rodent infested place" (meaning Baltimore).
Soooo, the Baltimore Sun editorial board responded to Trump. You can read it at this link, it's a doozy. But here is how it ends:
"Finally, while we would not sink to name-calling in the Trumpian manner — or ruefully point out that he failed to spell the congressman’s name correctly (it’s Cummings, not #######) — we would tell the most dishonest man to ever occupy the Oval Office, the mocker of war heroes, the gleeful grabber of women’s private parts, the serial bankrupter of businesses, the useful idiot of Vladimir Putin and the guy who insisted there are “good people” among murderous neo-Nazis that he’s still not fooling most Americans into believing he’s even slightly competent in his current post. Or that he possesses a scintilla of integrity. Better to have some vermin living in your neighborhood than to be one."

You're missing the point. Pretend for a second that it was Obama saying the exact same thing, if you can.
The point isn't that Baltimore is poor or dangerous, lots of places in the country are. The point is that Trump is President of Baltimore which is also part of the United States. Trump is President of all those people that live there.
Do you think Trump gives a #### about Baltimore? No, he doesn't care in the least. Trump is a Sociopath, a Narcissist and an incredibly dishonest and morally corrupt person.

So towns themselves are to blame for being poor now, and if they're poor, let them die because they deserve it?
You have heard of "urban blight", and you're aware of the root causes, right?
Plus...wow. That attitude will get you some votes. (I guess Trump figured he lost Maryland and its 11 electoral votes last time around anyhow, so hey, who cares, right?) But if you start sneering at and writing areas off just because they're impoverished, pretty soon you aren't going to have much left...either in terms of votes, or in terms of land. We aren't a frontier society anymore, we can't just go somewhere else when we don't like the old place anymore. We have to clean up and redevelop what we have.

He is correct! Most parts of West Baltimore that are in Cummings' district look like … Syria. Literally, thousands of vacant, unsafe, trash-filled houses; back yards and alleys used for trash dumps; trash-choked storm drains; statistically, the murder capital of the U.S.; a Deputy Police Commissioner and his wife robbed at gunpoint; the Police Department's highest-ranking civilian (a Muslim) brutally beaten and robbed in broad daylight by three "teens" on scooters; "teens" marauding through Harborplace and beating tourists; the previous Mayor resigned in disgrace for quietly receiving a $500,000 no-bid contract from the MD Hospital System for a child's book she allegedly wrote; the Mayor before her told police to give rioters "space to destroy" after a drug-dealer's death while in police custody … AND … Elijah Cummings' wife under investigation for mixing funds from a "non-profit" (that she runs) with her (and Elijah's) personal income. Hell! Parts of the City's IT system are still down … months after a ransomware attack! And the Baltimore Symphony orchestra is bankrupt!
In used to be a "relatively major player" in the City in the mid-70's to mid-80's, but now it's so bad that I never go there any more when I visit the area … and I don't know of any relative or friend that even ventures inside the beltway, let alone the City proper.
The last three decades have seen political corruption, incompetence and neglect to the point that there's almost nothing left to steal, and there's very little of what's left that is even worth saving!

Sanders likened the poverty he saw to a third-world country. I don't know if that's right or not, as I've never been to Baltimore or any third-world country. But his was not any sort of personal attack on the citizens of Baltimore. His statement reads as one of pity. I don't know if, in person, the tone was different.
The President literally called the people of Baltimore animals. His statement was not one of pity, but of hatefulness and scorn.

I have no opinion on Baltimore, as I have never been there. Statistics I have seen show that the city has a lot of troubles.
How we say things will always be equally important as what we are saying. If you don't believe me, instead of asking your wife (if you are married) what's for supper, ask her if she's actually going to get up off the couch and cook you something edible for once, and see if how you asked it matters. I think she'll lose track of the purpose of the question, and it'd be your fault for how you said it.

Cummings is not "in charge" of his district. No Congressman is. They are representatives of the people of their district, in the federal government. "In charge" of the area would be a mayor, an executive.
That's not to say Cummings hasn't failed in some way as a representative...I don't know anything about him or his district to be able to make such a call. Certainly the people of his district approve of what he is doing. But he's not "in charge".

I do not like the hate because everyone hates on Detroit, but no one has a clue to the inner workings politically and socially around the area. So everyone just spouts hate instead of learning about the situation.
Cummings is a terrible human being. Period. Much like Detroit's Duggan, Kilpatrick and many others before them.
The problems come directly from poor leadership, but no one wants to be held accountable. There are 4 different and active Federal Investigations into the front office in Detroit. 4! It should be the same with Baltimore. They should be holding people accountable.
Cummings is a waste of space and air on this earth and he should be held accountable. That is where Trump is correct. The rest is just cheap rhetoric.

What Trump said was correct but any sitting POTUS with any class would not have said it.
Just quote the poverty and crime statistics to show what a bad job Cummings has done.
My BIL who was in law enforcement at the time (mid 80’s) was mugged in downtown Baltimore. He was in plain clothes at the time and the mugger pulled a knife on my BIL and sister. BIL pulled his coat back to reveal his badge and gun. Mugger ran off.
