movement." - Joe Scarborough.

“Not so strange is the fact that you had David Duke and other white nationalists actually praising the president of the United States for his words, and why not?” Scarborough asked. “He has now become the president… not only of America, but also the white nationalist movement.”

“The president has chosen sides and it is very clear — not only morally, but especially politically — he has chosen the wrong side,” he said. “It is now up to the rest of us to figure out why he did that, exactly. Is he just a bigot?”

He is who we thought he was.

If you read the most recent words to construe that he's a

Aug 16, 2017, 8:08 AM

Bigot, then your mind was already made up before you read them.

There was nothing ambiguous about his condemning of white nationalists and neo-nazis, he just happened to also condemn the violent SJW's, and that seems to have your and Joe's panties in a wad.

I've said before, I'm not a Trump fan in general for other reasons, but I have never seen, nor could I have imagined, such a concerted, devious, and hyperbolic effort to topple a Presidency. Trump has had gaffs galore, but when the media chooses when to amplify a gaff and when to whitewash it, it's a problem. I'm pretty sure this will be the playbook against any future President who isn't a darling of the far left, and it could very well mark the final decline of our political system as we know it. Maybe that's hyperbole too, maybe not, but I hope I'm wrong.

think he's very intelligent.

I'm gonna assume you were asking because you thought I didn't have any and was just giving myself some room to move with that caveat?

Nope, I've stated problems with him numerous times.

Aug 16, 2017, 9:26 AM

It probably sticks out when I do defend him because there is such a mad scramble to assign evil intentions to his every action right now, that it seems inconceivable that one could think he might not be Hitler, Nathan Forrest, and Pol Pot rolled into one. I just think he's a bit of a jerkoff.

I like that he's trying to cut some unneeded regulations

and of course, 21,998. Plus, I like that he's trying to cut the corporate tax rate. Hopefully, they'll get a compromise of about 22%.

That's about all I like about him.

2024 orange level memberbadge-donor-15yr.jpgringofhonor-jospehg.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

No doubt, but the selective coverage is killing me.

Aug 16, 2017, 9:29 AM

Remember when he was going to get us in a nuclear war last week? For better or worse, his and his administration's tactics just caused the fat boy to back down. Have barely heard a word about it.

If coverage were like this during the 80's, The Berlin wall would have been an already scheduled remodeling project by East Germany that Reagan had nothing to do with.

2024 orange level memberbadge-donor-20yr.jpgringofhonor-obed.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

So why excuse his behavior?

Aug 16, 2017, 9:30 AM [ in reply to Ego, lack of polish, moral deficiencies, and I don't ]

I can't look past these issues and don't understand how people can recognize this and still defend him. For me those qualities overshadow anything positive that he might accomplish.

2024 white level memberbadge-donor-20yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Who's excusing what?

Aug 16, 2017, 9:32 AM

I'm saying that I can think he's a d-bag, and still examine each situation on its own merits without forging some foregone conclusions based on my character assessment of him that cloud my judgement.

2024 orange level memberbadge-donor-20yr.jpgringofhonor-obed.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I believe that Trump brings the criticism on himself.

Aug 16, 2017, 10:23 AM

Or at least the overwhelming majority of it. I can't see him as being a victim. He seems to be the one clouding his merits. When ever the sail gets hoisted and the ship begins to sail he seems to be below deck busting holes in the hull.

2024 white level memberbadge-donor-20yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I don't think you have to criticize everything he does...

Aug 16, 2017, 11:30 AM [ in reply to So why excuse his behavior? ]

just because you don't like his character and some of the things he does as a result. I know that one reason I defend him sometimes is because I think many people just interpret everything he does in the worst possible light.

2024 white level memberbadge-donor-10yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Exactly.

Aug 16, 2017, 11:52 AM

I wouldn't have picked him to be president. But it was literally him--or her.

I originally (and still do) liked the idea that someone not from Washington might be able to change things--and I still think that is possible. It just won't be him.

Yes, most of the "news" media are against the President

Aug 16, 2017, 9:47 AM [ in reply to If you read the most recent words to construe that he's a ]

But the President chooses the things he says and does. No one made him talk the way he did yesterday. No one makes him tweet what he does. Most of his problems are self-inflicted.

He has to take responsibility for his actions, instead of blaming everyone else. I do fault the "news" media for what they are doing, and I express that by not watching. But that doesn't mean the President is absolved of his responsibility.

Also, I maintain that the "news" media are simply doing what we want (a general "we"). If they are ceaselessly attacking the President, it's because that's what their audience wants. If they are ceaselessly praising the President, it's because that's we their audience wants. We also have responsibility here.

I'm a reasonable man, with reasonable intelligence.

Aug 16, 2017, 10:00 AM

I read and heard his words about this incident. Although it wasn't the most eloquent thing I've ever heard spoken, it did seem to me almost impossible for a reasonable person to read it and presume latent or overt approval of the neo-Nazis from it, unless they twisted it that way because they were predisposed to believe that.

Did you watch the press conference yesterday? At one point a journalist screams out "ARE YOU AGAINST THE CONFEDERACY???!!"

At another point, after he said something about people who were just against the monument being removed being treated unfairly, a reporter follows up with "ARE YOU SAYING YOU THINK WHITE NATIONALISTS ARE BEING TREATED UNFAIRLY???"

It's a joke. Everything is a gotcha right now.

I don't pay attention to what those shouting reporters say

Aug 16, 2017, 10:27 AM

They are just looking to make a story, a story that will be designed to get people riled up. I think the exercise is silly, to be honest with you. The questions are generally stupid, and loaded.

But, it still matters what the President says in response, and he has to live with the consequences of what he chose to say.

What about saying there were "fine people" among rallyers?

Aug 16, 2017, 11:27 AM [ in reply to If you read the most recent words to construe that he's a ]

Not sure why he said that, unless some of his advisers had convinced him that the alt-right people involved were separate from the nazis and KKK. I don't think many normal defenders of southern history were there.

To me, that was the bigger issue than meting out some blame to both sides.

Aug 16, 2017, 9:17 AM

personal thing between him and Trump guide his comments somewhat. I respect Joe as much as any other journalist going today, but calling Trump the President of the White Nationalist movement is akin to people saying Obama was the president of the Communist Party in the U.S. because they supported him.

Trump just needs to trust his inner circle right now and not make so many off the cuff comments no matter how he feels. Trust General Kelley and Ivanka(love her), etc. and just let some things be. I know he hates being forced into a corner on certain things but he needs to be smarter...still don't know if he's capable of that.

For every David Duke endorsement, I can find endorsements that would embarrass any elected official. This holds zero weight and I wish people would just ignore Duke instead of giving him a platform.

This post is weak.
