If our free market Health Care system is so awesome

how come other developed nations don't copy it? I always hear from Americans, that Canadians have a terrible health care system and have to wait months for simple procedures. If this were the case, why don't they move to a free market system where the profit motive heals people?

We do have an awesome system, easily the best in the world... for specialists, complicated cases, new and technical things, and the cutting edge of literally every field.
We don’t have good access to care or primary care coverage, and costs are really complicated. That’s it.

Candian median household income is greater than ours, until you get into the 60% percentile range, then we pass them. So you are basically saying 60% of this country cannot afford its own healthcare system, which is not far off.

I’m sorry, I’m trying to distill an enormously complicated topic to message board one liners.
I don’t mean that as individuals they can’t afford it, though your point about most Americans not being able to afford care is well taken, probably higher than 60%. Look at what our country spends as a % of GDP on healthcare. It’s miles above the closest country. Most countries either cannot or will not spend that much as a whole on healthcare.

difficult to privatize a government run healthcare system. Where would one even start?
I'm not sure I've ever heard anyone say our healthcare system is "awesome" or that insurance providers are awesome. I think there are a lot of aspects of our system that are better and there are some that need a lot of work. I don't think the only fix is to go to a single-payer system.
Also, the US is pretty unique when compared to Canada and other European countries. The shear size, differences in regional cultures, wide-range of socio-economic classes, and general federal system of government make it very difficult to compare the US to other countries.

All they have to do is say, "Yo, Humana, we want you to take 20% off the top and come in and manage our healthcare system", Humana would be like, "Heck yeah, we'll profit off your sick people!!!"

I think we will soon find out if we like socialized medicine better. We’re moving that way. I know a millionaire who just went on Obamacare. Is that good or bad? I don’t know but I guess we will see.

“Obamacare” isn’t a National plan, they are plans offered by usually private insurers that conform to particular standards of cost and coverage.
I am vehemently anti-single payer, as it would screw up my entire career, but ACA isn’t socialized medicine, not by a long shot.

Charleston tiger 15 it sounds like you have some knowledge about insurance. Help me understand something. I’m just not understanding how Obamacare is not welfare insurance. The government is paying a stipend right? That means the govt is paying your way? I don’t understand how a millionaire can get a govt stipend for his insurance and not call it welfare. My questions are sincere. Not remotely trying to debate.

the stipend phases out with income. I you know a millionaire with Obamacare, they are choosing that due to some other issue of insurability. Just wait until he's old enough to go on Medicare.

Nope has nothing to do with insurability. His “salary” from his corporation is within the Obamacare limits. His real net worth inside the company is millions.

You can do that anywhere.
A better question would be, where would you rather be if you have a serious health crises?
As for me, I had a major stroke at the age of 46, (absolutely no health issues beforehand, worked out daily, was an ideal weight, etc) and am glad I had the stroke in the U.S. just my personal preference.
And looking at rankings, the U.S. of A has more than its fair share of hospitals ranked in the top 100 worldwide. We often overlook that part when wanting to be more like Canada or some other country.
Also, I'd be willing to bet most people would rather have a serious health crises here versus most other nations with socialized Healthcare (well, if they're being honest)
Just my opinion.

a foreigner can break his/her leg skiing the Alps in France and you will get airlifted to a hospital, put into a cast, and it would barely cost you anything, save the bottle of pain killers.
The bottom line is they put the health of their people above profits. Profiting off sickness and disease is morally wrong in their culture.
It should be in ours too, but we have our priorities all out of whack in this country. Most people can't seem to get around the, "well that is just the way it is", argument, and not expect better.
