Whoa Nellie. Cade looked GREAT but..

4th Q; GT D already tired, and I think GT had given up the ghost.
Now Cade had a great drive. Kinda like DW in Athens or TL in College Station but with less pressure. Do not misunderstand, Cade looks like future but needs to play more than 1 drive for us to see. Next week he needs several series. Happy for the win! Go Tigers!!!

Both DW and Trevor had those throws early in the game against a fresh defense. Not comparable

I wouldn’t compare it to TL or DW, but discounting his play as though it was throw away footage isn’t valid. Forget the defense and just watch Cade alone. Very smooth, decisive, quick, and appeared to be in complete command. Plus, putting a ball on pinpoint accuracy has nothing to do with a tired defense.

I watched Cade's HS games last season. He's the real deal--quick and accurate.

True, but also keep in mind Cade was in with the 2nd & 3rd Team offense

So could you say you might call that a wash?

A.T., I mentioned last night that a close Texas cousin

sent a message after Cade's performance that read, "See what I told you" about him.
That cousin was a successful high school football coach, even a friend of ole Chad Morris, and who follows the game closely, even in retirement. He had seen Cade's abilities in Texas, and told me immediately after his commitment to us that we would win another national title with him.
I'll have a chance to delve into his opinions next week, as he will be here in Columbia visiting. But another thing he said was, "He won't need a year of bench-sitting."
I think he was right. DJ did show improvement last night, but not enough to convince me that he is national championship material. He may have been a stellar athlete in high school, but he played for a relatively small, private school with 800 students in a lower California tier. My thinking is radical, possibly off-base; but I'm not so sure that our staff didn't buy into all the west coast hype about DJ and misread that hype. DJ is good, no doubt, but at what level? Perhaps, single A here in S.C? I just don't know, and that's why most of my commenting, even with 57 years of Clemson experience, has been very limited and rather tame. I don't like calling out team members...but I do like winning.
Tough, tough situation for our staff, which is what I perceived was on Dabo's mind last night.
Go Tigerrrrrrrs!

Cade didn’t get tripped up by the grass/turf. That was refreshing.

If you couldn't tell he's awesome then you don't know much about football .

DJ still looks like he is running in quicksand. CK is smooth

the game looks effortless for him. DJ looks like everything is still moving way too fast for him to feel comfortable. Shouldnt be the case in year 3.

Cade also was shifty, he was able to get out of the pocket faster, felt more confident and maybe a strong D could change that but still looked better. Hell a strong D could make DJ look like a Deer in the headlights again like GA last year. So I'd rather go with someone who just seems more mobile. DJ is slow with his change of direction and that isn't going to cut it..
