Trevor health and Heisman odds

Nov 9, 2020, 11:53 AM

To be honest I have kind of wondered about this. For starters I think his health is the first concern, and Dabo will monitor that, but with 2 full weeks before next game I feel confident he will be pretty much back to form, just maybe not as many QB runs to start. That said, I dont know if it will matter how much he plays anyway.

The Heisman may be at best a longshot at least at the moment. Fields has lit it up, yes against tomato cans, but they are BIG 10 tomato cans, which you know, just makes them better. And even then, even playing against just air, his numbers are eye popping, and Day WILL get him his #s. Also factor in that in Trevor's absence, the offense has hummed along pretty well, and one could make the case that the passing yardage has been the same if not more. Do I think the complexion of the game is different with #16 in there? Absolutely. But from a 30,000 foot view, the voters may say Its system vs player, which will give them the excuse they want to vote elsewhere. And finally, for all we can hate hearing it, there are some monster performers this season. Fields, Mac Jones, Kyle Trask, the Kid from BYU. Who among them do you ignore? Is there still a shot? Absolutely. But I just dont know if it is going to happen this year.

I agree with this but if #16 was in the game for that last possession we would be a happier group of fans today. In many cases a great QB brings more to the table than numbers. It hard to place numbers on leadership and confidence and other intangibles but they are extremely important.

No question. Trevor has intangibles that I believe will bloom in time with DJ. Kid played phenomenal these past two games, so no worries. One other difference I would say as well. Trevor in my opinion is MUCH faster. DJ will be good in QB power, but Trevor is sneaky fast on the edge. DJ dosnt quite have that same level of quickness or first step. Part of that will come with time and experience, as it did Trevor from year one to year two.

That running ability makes all the difference. Trevor and DW had that added dimension that keeps defenses at bay. Give DJ time and let him work on it. He's only a true freshman. I don't see the same quickness but I'm not a coach down on the field. That being said, DJ will be a Heisman candidate too. I can see him throwing for 400 every single game.

Agree with all. Trevor’s running ability is on a whole different level than DJs and it may have helped open some stuff up Sat. DJ exceeded my expectations those two games.

The Heisman has been dead to me since it was stolen from DW4

The voters have more than established that they are incapable of being objective.

There are entirely too many voters, there has historically been mass regional bias in the voting, and the award no longer recognizes the best player. It has morphed into an award for a star offensive player at a glamour position on a team in the national championship hunt.

Correct. The Heisman is the best example of politics in sports. John Heisman would be ashamed of how the winner of his trophy is selected now.

YES

Early voting cost DW4 the Heisman. He would've taken it home if he had been awarded a recount after his master performance in the playoff/natty.

Most voters selected Lamarville...

after his early season performance against a very average FSU team.

Not only did Jackson lose to Watson two weeks later, he went 5-3 over his next eight games with God-awful performances against Houston, Kentucky and LSU.

Meanwhile...all Watson did was continue to put-up impressive numbers and win a National Championship.

But, but, but he hurdled a defender. HURDLED HIM!

Who cares that he finished the season losing to anyone and everyone while Watson had one of the best college football seasons ever.

You're right, the award is dead and meaningless today. A complete joke.

One of the game announcers said that with Trevor out Fields was now the clear front-runner for the Heisman. My question: Why do Trevor's 8 games hurt him when Fields is only playing 8 games?

It's supposed to go the player who has the best season and made the greatest impact. So sitting out will hurt Trevor's chances, and the fact that the award is given out before the CFP doesn't help either, but Trevor can still win it by coming back and dominating a ND rematch.

The Heisman Trophy has turned into the Nobel Peace Prize. It's a complete joke. The voting process is a complete disaster and has been for many years. No Clemson player will ever win a Heisman, and nobody who supports Clemson should give a rat's butt about it.

Beyond that, the Heisman is, nowadays, a kiss of death for NFL success. I'd rather Trevor lose the Heisman and become the next Brady/Montana/Elway than win the Heisman and be the next Manziel/Torreta/Wuerfel.
