Trevon Flowers

Feb 3, 2018, 12:36 PM

I know I am sure am excited about the possibility of landing this outstanding dual sport athlete, however, I read a Tennessee Insider article this morning that quoted Flowers as saying he expects to get drafted in the MLB draft in June and will then make a decision on whether he'll attend college or proceed to the MLB. It got me wondering, how would we handle this contingency? Assuming he's the only safety we get this cycle (looking at you Leon O'Neal), I am curious as to what the staff would do if Flowers chose to go the MLB instead of the football route. For the record, he went on to say he expects to go to college unless the draft numbers blow him away, but I still found it interesting nonetheless. Have we ever had something like that happen before?

We had to worry about Muse as well when he came

I don’t think he gets drafted high enough for him to consider going personally, but guys have their own reasons to go.

We whiffed on a bunch of top rated safeties this cycle. Could have had any number of 4* guys but slow played them looking for the big fish and the strategy failed. What will we do if Flowers commits they plays pro baseball? The short answer is there is nothing we can do. We will play with who we have on the roster and move players from Corner or WR in a emergency.

I do agree somewhat. I appreciate the staff's approach to being selective and finding the right guys but sometime it feels like we wait a little too long to pull the trigger. They know better than us, but it is sometimes frustrating. If Flowers leaving for the MLB is a real possibility, I would really love to see us steal O'Neal somehow just in case.

Well he stated college is his path and unless he just get drafted really high he will be going to college, which is most likely going to happen bc from what I read he's not goin to be a high draft pick. Secondly I think we land Goodrich as well so he most likely won't be our only Safety taken this cycle. Goodrich is a very good prospect that we have a very high chance of landing IMO. Flowers will be a very good under the radar recruit as far as star ranking go if we land him. Also haven't really seen how good he is at baseball but he would be a great addition to the baseball team as well I think this kid is a win win for 2 clemson sports. Go Tigers!!
