Transfer stats and roster management

I’d be interested to see statistics across CFB and at clemson. How do we compare?

At what rate do different position groups transfer?

My perception is that WR’s & DB’s transfer at higher rates, but maybe that’s because there are loads of them on the roster. QB’s too.

On the other hand, I feel like OL’s and LB’s don’t transfer much at all.

In terms of roster management, I guess schools have to start factoring this in and over signing certain groups at the expense of others.

This doesn't break it down by position, but it gives you a general idea of the movement around the country.

I guess you can take as many players a year as you want to now? Lots of teams have taken over 25 transfer portal guys. It doesn't appear that this affects the number of new recruits you can take. Looks like some teams are basically taking only portal guys. Colorado has taken 50 portal guys.

I would assume the portal is much cheaper to recruit from and less time consuming. Plus it is probably a band-aid for those that can't recruit as well or for those coaches trying to salvage their job.

Recruiting is always tough and even tougher because of The Portal. If one thing could be changed, for me it would be having The Portal only be open January to May for football which would give schools June to December to recruit for spots affected by the guys that leave.

I agree with that. I think a lot of kids make rash decisions in the heat of the battle during the season when they get benched or whatnot. Letting them cook off and make rational decisions I think would. be to everyone’s benefit.
