I heard Walt Deptula say that the transfer portal is creating a large group of college football players with no scholarship. So I looked it up and found an article written by Joe Kinsey about 10 months ago in Outtake. The numbers are 72% of the players entering the portal do not find another school to give them a scholarship. It seems this system has failed and there needs to be some new regulations put around it or it needs to be scrapped altogether. There are the elite players, the 22%, who profit but the majority are being hurt.
And the players themselves (grown men by law, although maybe not by maturity)and their families are the ones who need to re-evaluate and consider these statistics. Free choice is not always free, but a choice none the less. Let those making the decisions shoulder the blame, not those that allowed the option to make a free choice.
