Why are you looking at guys currently in the portal? There may be a few good ones, but it’s mostly scraps for others to pick up. You should be looking for guys that are good enough to play and may be willing to enter the portal, if we’re interested. Maybe, guys starting on teams where the coach takes a new job or gets fired.

Current NCAA rules prohibit a school from talking to a player until he has already entered the portal database. It would be considered an NCAA violation...similar to "tampering". I'm guessing, though, that most of the 4 and 5* who entered the portal had contacted their "future destination"...wink...wink. It's those 3* and lower who wind up without a home. Portal players mostly want playing time and are often 2nd or 3rd string. Schools who shop from the portal realize this and are very selective as this factor could poison the locker room. I'm old school, want to give high school kids that I recruited and want to grow from within. We'll see how this whole "Port-O-Let" experiment works out. We'll see if we get to a point where College teams are built entirely from the transfer portal...we'll need a "transfer cap" just like the NFL has it's salary cap to keep from building Super Teams. Just my 2.5 cents (inflation you know).

Yes, schools can’t officially communicate with guys not in the portal. Both sides also know some of the same people.

i think good players know their destination prior to entering the portal

Didn’t you hear?

There are no players in the portal good enough to start at Clemson. If there are, they are quitters and/or have character issues that wouldn’t be a good fit for us.

That’s why Dabo doesn’t like the portal.

LOL...so triggered by the possibility of change, yet fails to see the college football world landscape will never again be like it was over the last 5 years.
