Top Individual Performances from an Opponent in Death Valley

May 24, 2017, 11:40 AM

Clemson probably has the best home field advantage in College Football. Death Valley affects the head, causes penalties, and intimidates. Very rarely does an individual from the visiting team come in and produce at a memorable level, but when it does, you just have to tip your cap.

This one immediately comes to mind. We just simply had no answer and couldn't stop him.

Todd Gurley and Jameis Winston in 2013, both seemed pretty much untouchable.

Gurley had that one long run

May 24, 2017, 4:26 PM

But other than that he didn't do much

Warrick was the one I was thinking of. Seems like Hamilton had a great day that same afternoon if I remember correctly.

I remember Ted Brown of NC State having a pretty good rushing day against us.

Pretty sure that was Tony Horne.***

Boomer Esiason torched us over and over in 1985.I recall Delton Hall getting beat multiple times. He was super aggressive and kept biting on the underneath and Boomer could throw it a mile.

1995 Tiki Barber...Not sure of the stats but I had that name ringing in my head that night from hearing the PA guy saying his name all day.

Definitely Jameis Winston in 2013. Freshman QB coming in and putting on a show in Death Valley at night on one of the biggest game days I can remember at Clemson

Julius Peppers - 2001

I have never seen a defensive player beat an entire team by himself until this game.

That guy was unstoppable.

Matty Ice had our number and threw passes that were nearly impossible.

Crushed our dreams multiple times. His last minute heroics made me hate him until he went to the Falcons.

I remember as a kid Torry Holt came to town and ruined my day as a young tiger fan. He was a heck of a college WR.

Jameis Winston, Gurley even though they lost, Joe Hamilton (GT) used to give us fits in the Woody days, and I can't remember how big of a game but I know Matt Ryan clinched a division title in Death Valley

Warrick was the first name that came to mind, even before...

May 24, 2017, 5:05 PM

... I saw your post. Just a monster all-purpose game.

Also, nobody had ever heard of Doug Flutie until his game at Clemson in 1982. Ended in a tie, but he was a star.

In another tie game, Duke had a kicker that set an ACC record with six field goals in 1976.

In yet another tie game, Sterling Sharpe had a solid performance for the Gamecocks in 1986. One of his diving catches still seems unreal to me.
