I remember the weeks leading up to the firing and Tigernet was in shambles. Sure, today you'll have some bitching and moaning about Dabo or Morris but nothing like then. The program and Tigernet are both better since Bowden has been gone.

Question:
Oct 13, 2014, 1:18 PM
|
|
6 years ago today, would t-net have taken an ACC title and an OB victory and been happy, no questions asked? How many would have been happy if they were told we'd have 2 11 win seasons, and 1 10 win season in a row from Swinney the past 3 years? Perspective....he changed the culture here. The program is on the rise, not the alternative. Where my dumpers at?!

I think Coach Swinney is the best thing to happen to this program since Coach Ford and he is going to be here A VERY LONG TIME. There are always going to be haters, but 90% of Clemson Nation supports Dabo. I don't think anyone supported Tommy Bowden. He had to go.

Dabo, like Danny, is woven in the fabric that is Clemson. I hope he is here a long time, I just can't imagine him coaching anywhere else. He has fully invested himself in this university in every way.

But he did get us out of the pit of the Hatfield ans West years.
And BTW, that is no knock on Tommy West. He is more likable that Hatfield or T. Bowden. Nice guy. Liked him a lot.

The $3.5 million buyout was paid in $600,000 annual installments over six years. I believe the last payment was made in December of 2013.

And no other team bothered to pick him up???? Really??? All those teams that need a coach, and he is not on their list. I guess CLEMSON was the only school ... ah forget about it - he's gone and I'm happy about it. Nuff said I guess.

He brought in Dabo and established academic success. College football and basketball generally seem to have lost their way. Clemson is doing it right, and Bowden helped with that.

Winning aside, Tommy Bowden represented this University very well. He brought a vision of better, beautiful facilities, we are still reaping the benefit from that today. Glad he was here, appreciate his contributions but we are in a much better place today with Dabo.

Hard to believe he lasted until '08. After the 2004 season I knew he would never win anything at Clemson other than that Peach bowl. His teams were soft and moody, just like him.

Bowden did some great things at Clemson. He got the facilities built or on the drawing board. He loved Clemson but never got the continuous momentum after RR left. But he had his way with Psycholina. For that alone, we need not throw coach Bowden under the bus.

He was so overrated. Has he even gotten another head coaching gig? I don't think so. But why would he, he's still living comfortably off his buyout that the University is most likely still paying him. smh...
Glad to finally have a winner in Dabo!

I was one of those who felt it was time for a change even though I acknowledged Coach Bowden's contributions.
Most of those thoughts in those days were expressed between me and Clemson cohorts, all of whom were in agreement. The biggest surprise was the hiring of Coach Swinney, which astounded all of us with resulting comments, "What in the he1l???????????" lol

I wouldn't mind keeping him on the payroll as a consultant for the last regular season game each year. He sure could beat the coots like the ugly step child they always were and will continue to be starting this November.

I remember at that time believing TB should go however I was concerned about doing it midseason. It just didn't seem very "Clemson" of us.
However with the benefit of 20/20 vision now, TDP made the right call to do it after that WF loss. It allowed Dabo time to salvage that small recruiting class which contained one Mr. Tahj Boyd. If TDP had waited until after the season, perhaps we don't get Tahj and the 11 win seasons don't happen.
