just not my cup of tea. I've turned down a couple good job offers in the past, no way I'm living there. I've said this for many years: Atlanta has all the problems (traffic, crime, etc) of most big cities, but without the charm. Kinda like Houston... huge cities, but lacking any real identity. Cities like Boston, SF, Chicago, San Diego, Denver, Miami might be tolerable, they at least have some positives to offset the negatives.
That's just me. I'll duck for cover now and slink off into the primeval muck....

I have no idea why anyone lives there. You can pick that town up and put in the middle of anywhere, and you'd never be able to tell a difference. There is nothing distinguishing or characteristic about it.
Whoever created the Matrix said "I think I'll build a small city and over flow it with urban sprawl", and Alpharetta was created.

Google says Alpharetta is the light gray part in the middle.
But I really have no idea, as all I've ever seen there is random, generic neighborhoods named "Oak Crest" Or "Pineview" or "Fairmount" with a lot of mcmansions, strip malls, convenience stores, car lots, and a lot of business parks with manicured lawns and Hilton Garden Inns.

It's a mess of disconnected neighborhoods really. You really have to know your way around them, and level-set your exceptions differently for each. East Atlanta is not like Midtown. Brookhaven is not like Eastlake. Buford Hwy is not like Buckhead. Decatur is not like Sandy Springs.
But once you know your way around it's pretty relaxed, reasonably inexpensive, with lots of good food and places to see.
FWIW, I like Atlanta a lot better than:
* St Louis
* Cincinnati
* Birmingham
* Orlando
* Tampa
I don't like Atlanta as much as:
* Denver
* Chicago
* Washington DC
* Boston
*San Diego
But the only other major city I've lived in is Dallas, so it's really hard for me to judge. I'd say that's really on-par with my experience living in the city of Atlanta.
