Whats everyone’s thought on this? Do you not eventually have to suit back up?

I feel bad for the seniors on both teams, but i understand if UVA is still morning.

I dunno. I honestly figured there was no way they would cancel this game

I don’t agree with it. They’ve let the A$$Hole win.***

Play the game. Postpone it till after the conference championships if need be. Normalcy needs to resume as soon as possible to help healing process.

Funerals are for the living. The dead dont care. You are correct...it is entirely the decision of those boys playing for uva. Personally, if I was on the team, spot the ball. If I'm the parent, I cant imagine.....

Pretty sure both teams would have gotten behind this and given the players a chance to have a good reason to play.

What the Hell-o.
Life moves on, kind of cold heart, three life's will never move on and two will be changed forever! If I was the coach of Virginia, I would talk with each family with team present and get their opinion and go from there. It is a group tragedy and needs to be a group decision. I respect VA.Tech to accept this.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: Bresee lost his sister and played a week later.

Nov 22, 2022, 12:13 PM

I doubt any of the three players tragically taken from this life would say cancel. More likely they would say play and kick some butt.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: Bresee lost his sister and played a week later.

Nov 23, 2022, 6:55 PM

I agree. They probably would want their brothers to carry on and go play. Win one for them. Sports, have historically been a healing moment in America (post 9/11) and help people return to normalcy.

Personally, i think it would've been very emotional, must watch game, and great for the UVA v VT to play their game.

But to call them "snowflakes" is grossly unacceptable and pathetic. GUARANTEE this dude wouldn't say that to the players face. To a single players face. Or the families face... But they'll hide on the internet and say it.

The senseless and meaningless nature of that violence is unconscionable. They need their time to grieve. Ordinarily, im the first to say get back to work. Nov 21, 2022, 10:11 PM [ in reply to Re: TNET: Virginia at Virginia Tech game cancelled ]

I hope they polled the team!! Neither will be bowl eligible so they are done for 2022. I doubt many players are quitters and I doubt the guys that unfortunately lost their lives would want the team to be quitters, just my gut? Plus, what did the families say? Did they want their son's team to quit the season like this. They cancelled Coastal game and now their State rivalry.

All the above said, if the family and players said they needed time, then I am 100% behind them. I just hope the decisions were made based pff the people that it matters most to and wasn't another knee-jerk reaction like so many things over the last couple years. I want the people affected the most to be satisfied with the decision, it isn't for others to decide for them!

Absolutely. Not that it matters, but the season is over for all practical purposes (for both teams). Some things are more important than football. If they decided to honor the victims by going out and playing, good on them. If they decide to cancel, as they have, good on them. God bless the fallen and their families.

The decision should be made by Tony Elliott...

Nov 21, 2022, 10:02 PM

... after consultation with the team.

Nobody is in a better position to know how is team is responding and what is best for them than him.

The others involved - UVA administration, VT administration, ACC administration - should support whatever Tony recommends.

It appears this is what happened.

The reality is that that game would mean nothing for either team "on the field" other than bragging rights, so I have no issue with it. I agree that eventually you just have to suit up and play, but there's no reason to play what amounts to a meaningless game if the players' hearts aren't in it.

That is the right, and only, decision. The lives of the young men that play for UVA are far more important than a football and they need to be home with their families this week.

Nov 21, 2022, 11:31 PM

Your virtue signaling evidently knows no boundaries!

This is the right decision?

This is the only decision?

My God you are arrogant. What you think what you want is meaningless. There are many people on that football team and in that locker room and I’m sure different people would like to do something different but at the end of the day it’s their decision not yours but of course someone like you as always proves to be judgmental.

Still waiting on you to admit you wete wrong about everything with Covid and your judging of people was astoundingly arrogant! You and people like you owe a lot of people an apology! You don’t get amnesty!

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: Lmao

Nov 22, 2022, 6:23 PM

I’m sure you’ll get hammered by all those concerned about their percentages but I’m not and I agree with you. Only decision? Right decision? There was no right or wrong decision here just a sad choice. The loss of theee teammates is heartbreaking and devastating and whether you play the game or not the young men are still gone and the lives of those left behind are changed forever. Canceling two games allowed the killer to win again!! It also punishes all the kids from both teams as well as their families and the students and the fans. No one will disagree that there are more important things in life than football, however the fellowship we share as fans can be so healing the camaraderie that teammates have as well as what they share with their opponents can also be very therapeutic. Sports are something that we loook to in order to get away from the struggles of every day life. It’s a horrific tragedy and we all are praying for those families and their friends.

Re: TNET: Virginia at Virginia Tech game cancelled

Nov 22, 2022, 7:23 AM

I'm not surprised that some of the people here are second guessing a decision that heavily involved Tony Elliott after they Monday morning quarterbacked every call he made as OC. No one is giving up or quitting by not playing a football game. Our current college kids grew up with active shooter drills in their schools and had a lot of big events canceled since they were in 10th grade. It wouldn't surprise me if UVa finishes the semester virtually after Thanksgiving. It still creeps me out that a total stranger shot out some windows and then killed himself in my office parking lot years ago. I can't imagine how these kids feel knowing they were actually in classes with someone who intentionally killed three of their friends.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: TNET: Virginia at Virginia Tech game cancelled

Nov 22, 2022, 7:58 AM

I was thinking about this on my way to work this morning when I heard on the radio the game was canceled. I personally think they are doing a disservice to all the players. Don't get me wrong I 100% understand that this was a horrible tragedy. My heart goes out to all of the victims and their families!

With that said, I feel like a big part of college is preparing kids for the future and what life is going to be like. Once you're out of school you realize the world doesn't stop for anyone or anything. If my parent passes, or God forbid someone's kid dies, their company keeps going. You can get a few days off for your bereavement policy but that's it.

I don't think it's going to help any of them in the long run to get over 2 weeks straight off due to a horrible tragedy. When they get out in the workforce and something bad happens they are going to expect to have all of this time off and the entire world around them to stop, but it's simply not going to.

Obviously this is all different if it's your own child that were to die. I had a lady whose son was killed in an auto accident and she was off for a couple months, understandably so. No one is going to give you that much time off for a co-worker or friend though.

Again, this is not to belittle the tragedy that happened. I know it was horrible! I don't feel like it's right to force the kids to play but I do think that should be the default option and let ones who simply can't do it opt out.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: TNET: Virginia at Virginia Tech game cancelled

Nov 22, 2022, 8:46 AM

This is such a horrific and senseless tragedy, prayers should go out the UVA, Tony Elliott, and all the members of the team. That being said I have a very serious question, Where are the BLM, CRT, and Woke people, including the "Reverends" Al and Jesse? If you will remember, when a Career Criminal, who had just committed another Felony, George Floyd died while resisting arrest, there were protest, rioting, looting, arson and many other crimes committed "In his Honor"! We even had a huge "rally" and speeches on the campus at Clemson. Well if BLM really matters, where are they at UVA. I guess Black Lives don't really matter, if the life is taken by another Black, or is BLM actually is a total farce, except to cause racial strife and disruption to allow the looting, robbing, arson and numerous other crimes.
I'm sure this post won't be popular to a lot of people, and I'm sorry if it offends you, but it's factual and you can't change facts.

Play the game. By cancelling the game the a-hole that did this wins? He gets more notoriety, he has more control? What’s the reasoning behind the cancelation? Safety? If that’s the reason then one hundred percent the game should be cancelled. The loss of these young men’s lives is horrific and a tragedy that as a parent it’s impossible to wrap my head around. No parent should have to bury a child. The suffering of those families will continue forever, whether they play the game or not. I’m saddened for all the kids on both sides who work so hard for this game. I might take hits for this but I believe this is wrong? At some point the team needs to feel as close to normal as possible.

Nov 22, 2022, 5:51 PM

When you do not get on the football field focused on "just playing the great sport of football" you can mess around and hurt yourself.
If these kids at UVA have only half their mind in the game - "they do not need to step on the field"! No way!

Would be a hard spot for VT too I would imagine. Neither team is going to a bowl game! Just go ahead and get it over with!

Also I cannot understand the comments on the the shooter wins. He didn’t win anything because the kids or admin decided to not play the game. Again these guys will probably tell you it’s just a game and that they feel they lost 3 brothers. Im a competitive guy but could give 2 ##### about playing a game if my teammates had been shot. Nobody wins in this situation. All those kids parents lost a son. Fairly certain if the kids had wanted to play they would have played. Again a lot more important things than the pigskin.
