To be an analyst, you have to be able to analyze something. Mike Ditka was an analyst. Paul Finebaum is a dipstick with a microphone.

He basically expresses opinions that are deliberately offensive or provocative.
It's clearly working for him so he, or his producers, keep doing it.
That makes him smart or opportunistic, not good.

reputation and clout outside of SEC fandom is minimal. He is an authority on SEC football, which just happens to be the product to which the worlds largest sports entertainment network has hitched it's wagon, so he is merely benefitting from that situation. Good or bad, ESPN now runs college sports, and they make or break guys like Finebaum.

The only remarkable thing about this man is that he has parlayed zero football knowledge, zero charisma, zero sense of humor, zero inside information and zero ability to be objective into a multi-million dollar career where people want him to say what he thinks about college football. It is truly remarkable.
