Kirby Smart calls out coaches negatively recruiting UGA saying 'SEC too tough'

Bad coaching and terrible fake punts makes elite QB's transfer out of the conference too. Justin Fields learned his mistakes and I am sure doesn't regret leaving.

Well doesn't this sound like Kirby is using this platform that he and DumDum set up together, just to accuse others of negative recruiting, just to get his negative recruiting out there for himself and the SEC. It's getting harder and harder every season for the SEC to claim superior dominance over the rest of college FB, so they are using the ESECPN talking sports with DumDum to accuse other conferences of negative recruiting, and it was probably really hard for those two not to accuse Dabo and Clemson/staff By Name!!!

this is just flat out pathetic...

Apr 25, 2020, 10:53 AM

We play Bama, Auburn, Texas A&M, SCAR, etc, and I don't remember them toting our players off the field. And we're not "all banged up" at the end of the game. If anything, it's just the opposite. Remember the Bama players from the Greatest Team In College Football History... all worn out and getting up slow, with their hands on their hips and gasping for air? Hel1, Justyn Ross put a Bama guy on the stretcher with a little slap. LOL

In fact, if ACC teams are afraid of getting hurt playing those tough SEC guys, imagine what it must be like when they play all those out-of-conference cupcakes like Mercer, Samford, Louisiana-Monroe, etc. I guess they have a couple dozen ambulances on standby, just to rush the most seriously injured players to the hospital. I know the App St & Citadel boys ain't afraid to play SCAR...

LMAO. What a bunch of rubbish.

Our 3 losses have been to the eventual National Champ: Bama, Bama, and LSU.

Georgia is 27-13 in the SEC over the same period of time, plus they have losses to 4 loss Texas team and a 4 loss GT team.

If Kirby ever gets to good enough to win a Natty, will he still be a jerk?

Kirby must think we are idiots.

Apr 25, 2020, 11:25 AM

If he thinks schools like Clemson, FSU, Miami, Texas, Oklahoma, UNC, VT, Ohio State, etc..... Are telling kids, "You don't want to go to the SEC. They are too tough and physical. Come here. The games are easier" then he is an idiot.

And, he's not an idiot. He knows schools aren't telling kids that. I suspect he is selling Georgia by telling them, "You could go to Clemson or UNC or FSU. But, you don't want to go there. You want to play agianst the very toughest teams in the very toughest conference. You want to play in the SEC, don't you?"

HE is telling them that. It's a nice little pitch in his recruiting pitch to them.

But, he knows darn good and well that Dabo and Norvell and Mack Brown and any other coach he's recruiting against ain't saying that.

military_donation.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: Kirby must think we are idiots.

Apr 25, 2020, 3:13 PM

If he believed a word of what he was saying, he would have taken the FSU job to make it easier to get to the NCG. There are ACC teams that are just as tough as the SEC teams. The biggest difference is bc of the big bad SEC conference dream world and recruits believing it, they get better players wanting to play in the SEC. That is exactly why the are all saying that Clemson is like a SEC team playing in the ACC. They don't want kids thinking that ACC teams can be just as good as the SEC, so they label Clemson as a SEC caliber team!!!

A few years back, SEC was short for Seems Everyone's Cheating.
Auburn is known for cheating issues recently, and UGA has been included in a lot of rumors of cheating. Of course, USuC is under current penalties.
Seems Everyone's Cheating is probably still accurate.

Re: TNET: Kirby Smart calls out coaches negatively recruiting UGA saying 'SEC too tough'

Apr 25, 2020, 2:55 PM

Color me crazy, but I'm not worried about 1) if Dabo says that or 2) if anybody else says it or 3) why Kirby needs to make that excuse.

IT IS A TRUE STATEMENT.

Why would a kid go to a school where he is expected to play smashmouth football for a minimum of 39 games+hundreds of practices and yet still preserve his body for a lifetime of playing in the NFL?

SEC games are played with headhunting ferocity. "SEC size" and "SEC speed" make contact more violent. Fewer than 50% of SEC starters don't miss playing time in a season. When you're a pro getting paid, with a 53-man roster, you have to make sacrifices and play with minor injuries; as an amateur with a 120-man roster, why would you? Or why would your coach expect you to if he cares about your future?

When a pro team loses a key player to injury, it frequently costs them a couple losses (if not the season). But pro teams can absorb multiple losses and still have a chance at a championship. College teams cannot. A key injury--even if it's only for a partial game, like Trevor's vs. Syracuse--can end a team's championship chances.

Basically I think Kirby is complaining about having to play such a physical style in the SEC. He is stuck playing ball control in a ball control league. Of the ~150 plays in a game ~120 end in a tackle. When two ball control teams play each other, there are >200 multiplayer collisions (blocks or tackles consisting of more than just one-on-one encounters) where many of the minor injuries occur. He is forced to match styles with Saban to have any chance of beating him. But so long as he has to win the SEC in order to get into the CFP, he will not get there if he cannot keep his key players healthy. In a free transfer era, he will not be able to stockpile RBs "just in case." (So far he's done it better than Gus Malzahn, another coach who wants to change styles.)

He needs to change his style. But so long as Saban's teams play bullyball, Kirby won't change. He'll just whine about other coaches' ability to keep players upright when he can't. But it's all due to his priorities.

There is nobody bring dishonest or unfair. Just Kirby being a baby.

Re: TNET: Kirby Smart calls out coaches negatively recruiting UGA saying 'SEC too tough'

Apr 25, 2020, 3:33 PM

With SEC coaches telling recruits they are the best and toughest, it opens the door wide open for telling recruits that their chances of getting hurt and ending their FB career if they play in the SEC. Those idiots think they have the best tools in the recruiting tool box by telling recruits how good and tough they are, and they get mad when it's pointed out to recruits if that's so, it could ruin their chances of a FB career. Just use what they say about how tough they are against them!!!

2024 orange level memberbadge-donor-15yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Kirby was Smart to make those comments

Apr 25, 2020, 4:00 PM

Those comments got Kirby ATTENTION, great free publicity, can only help recruiting.

And they are dead on.

His kids no doubt play stronger, better players every season than do Dabo's players.

He sells what he got. Dabo can sell a likely trip to The Playoffs due to his schedule.

Clemson plays a schedule that is quite easy every year compared to the SEC schedules. Excellent teams no doubt but getting to The Playoffs is a relatively easy task for them.

OTOH if Clemson were in the SEC they might get there some years but would not have in '19 IMO. LSU played teams better than CU during the season.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Whining to get attention is still whining.

Apr 25, 2020, 4:16 PM

Bama cakes walks through their schedule most years and you guys catching fire last year doesn't change anything for bama's upcoming year.

The talent laden team you had last year is gone, and Bama will once again have to worry about how many point they beat Auburn by at the end of the year and out coaching UGA in the championship game.

Re: 'LSU played teams better than CU during the season'

Apr 25, 2020, 4:58 PM [ in reply to Kirby was Smart to make those comments ]

Nothing like an opponents' message board to allow you to flap your gums without accountability, right?

I've never hidden from the fact that the SEC is a physical league. Everyone knows it. That's why in all 3 championship games our SEC opponents have tried to knock out our offensive playmakers with dirty or after-tackle hits. It is what it is; you'll never see Dabo's teams play that way. He respects the game and wants his guys to be worthy of the championship they're playing for. You guys always think you're the first to introduce us to the jungle way of life.

Meanwhile, you can't identify the multiple teams you played in the regular season that were better than Clemson, and then defend that statement with any credibility.

Yes, you had a shootout with Bama, because your defense played terribly. Bama was not better than Clemson last year. I'm curious who else you thought was a Top 5 team. Maybe Texas? Again, your inconsistency early in the year didn't make your opponents really good. Texas proved that.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: 'LSU played teams better than CU during the season'

Apr 25, 2020, 5:55 PM

bama with Tua was a better team vs LSU than was CU. In their only other loss, w/ Tua out, their back-up QB threw 2 pic-6.

UTx early, before injuries and a dip in play, was better vs LSU than CU. at the end of the season they were back up, blasting Utah.

UF played LSU better than CU.

AU played better but that was just a day and they not that good, wouldn't say they were close to Clemson at any point.

The difference in conference opponents is huge.

UGA competes against a league where the other teams had 13 First Round draft choices.
Clemson competes against a league where the other teams had ONE First Round draft choice.
If you can't see a huge talent difference in the opposition your eyes are closed.

IF my LSU team had to win one more game to get the NC, I would elect to play UC again rather than playing UF, or bama w/ Tua.

Am not here to insult Clemson, great program and great team; however reality is that Clem would be at/near the top of SEC in recent yeas but wouldn't have been in The Playoffs every year if they played the more difficult SEC schedule.

The reality is there is a lot more to a college decision for a young athlete than the so-called ‘toughest conference’ blather from Coach Playcaller. In my opinion, many programs just use players. See what happens when they get injured or don’t pan out as expected. What do these young men do if they don’t get drafted?Or if they get injured? Graduation rates, academics, etc. That’s what most smart athletes are looking for in a school Kirby.

"knock out with dirty plays"

Apr 25, 2020, 6:05 PM

In the recent NC game there was only one DQ for targeting and it wasn't LSU that committed it. And it was blatant, no question, dirty.

As does any other good team, LSU hits hard as part of wearing down an opponent. Like the shot Burrow took when he threw the TD pass at the end of the half. Brutal hit, injured him, but why call it dirty? CU hit him hard and clean.

Didn't watch the other games but know LSU didn't play dirty.

The accusation is the cry of losers.
