Former Clemson WR waived by Ravens

Former Clemson receiver Deon Cain was waived by the Baltimore Ravens in their final round of cuts to get to their 53-man roster on Tuesday. He has made $1.18m in 3yrs and that doesn't include what he has made so far this year. Not sure he would have done better with a yr of college. This is soley his NFL salary, likely could have made some in summer camps, etc.

He will get picked up! Practice Squad

Aug 31, 2021, 7:13 PM

Someone will pick him up and he will be on some teams practice squad. If for no other reason; "his speed"! He can simulate some other receivers around the league.

Cain was a team guy who i.m.o got caught up in being a team first dude. Similar to DK.

They both played QB and basically had to "project to being WR's"! Well at this level other kids who were playing the position throughout H.S. all during 7 on 7 and such and games learned nuances of the position.
I.M.O it hurt both of these guys! Some can get it and some can't( Hunter Renfrow is an example of a QB turned WR who could).

I wish Cain nothing but the best!

Even if he stayed...

It wasn't a guarantee that he was going to start...

He needed to work on his route running and his hands, what

Aug 31, 2021, 9:21 PM [ in reply to Re: Poster Child for Should Have Stayed Four Years*** ]

do you think are still his issues? Consistent route running and hands...It's not his athleticism that's holding him back

route running and his hands

Is that why he was cut?

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Pretty sure that was Derrick Hamilton***

So, let's all get drunk, and go to heaven!

No, Derrick had bad knees, staying another year wouldn't

have helped him much

He was doing really well for the Colts

Sep 1, 2021, 12:31 PM [ in reply to Poster Child for Should Have Stayed Four Years*** ]

till he got injured.

Staying 4 years wouldn't have changed anything if he had gone through the same injury.

He was doing well with the Colts for the preseason...Mainly

Sep 1, 2021, 6:30 PM

because they were entirely devoid or WR talent outside of always injured T Y Hilton and if you think another year concentrating on his inconsistent hands and route running wouldn't have helped, there's not much more I can say to you...It would just go over your head

Bad luck: Good WR but....

Aug 31, 2021, 6:24 PM

His final year with Kelly Bryant was a bad harvest year for all WRs.
Also the injury in his 1st yr in NFL did not help.
Tough luck.

As a Ravens fan, I'm disappointed. But he dropped two balls the last preseason game and that didn't help. Maybe he'll get put on their PS and go from there.

IMHO D. Cain had outstanding NFL potential. Through injury, decision making, work ethic, or inability to kiss the coaches’ behinds, he has lost his opportunity for now. Hopefully, he will make the change needed to stay in the league. He needs the league - the league does not need him. No doubt Deon gets that now. With Deshaun on the field, Cain was a budding star.

His biggest problem was inconsistency.

Sep 1, 2021, 10:43 AM

He would make incredible and spectacular catches. But then drop a wide-open easy catch on third down to kill a drive.

That made him unpredictable and unreliable.
