I would take Bresee, Simpson, and Henry before I would take Murphy. I would want guys who wanted to play and respect the game enough to give all out effort every play.

The three other ESPNers (McShay, Miller and Reid) had Bresee in the top 15; two in the top 10, the third 11 or 12th. He’ll go early to mid 1st. Kiper also thought Kentucky’s QB was the best QB, over Young and Stroud so .. everyone knows the comparisons with opinions.

I'm seeing more and more projections of Bresee falling out of the first round. A good combine could change that. I think he will be OK either way but boy I wish he would have come back for one more year and really shown what he can do. He would have been an absolute Top 10 pick in 2024 had he stayed healthy.

Regardless, I wish him all the best!

Honestly, it's pretty weird that all of a sudden Bresee has started to drop after staying in the top 15 all year.

I'm wondering if more is going on -- like Da'Quan Bowers had some knee issues revealed close to the draft that dropped him from a top 10 pick to just outside the 1st RD.

Yeah, some are going to say something like "well, he should drop because of X/Y/Z" but to start dropping now? They had all season to start dinging his stock.

That said, it could certainly be teams wanting to muddy the waters in hopes that he'd fall out the top 20 and into their laps. I agree with you though that his measurables will probably slow that talk and he still probably gets picked as a 1st Rd pick.

I'm still waiting for the poast about a Kiper and ESecPN conspiracy to pump Bresee up, project him high in the draft, and then drop the bomb after it's too late to stay at Clemson. Wait a minute ...

The last paragraph is dumb. The projected draft has literally nothing to do with the teams. They make their own decisions. Not everything is some elaborate conspiracy. The simple fact is that a lot of these experts don't have a good sense of the field of players until the season is over and players say they're announcing or not. One player surprising people by declaring early or saying they're coming back changes up the entire draft. If someone like Bresee is considered the second best tackle, but then someone better announces, dropping to third at their position can make them fall to the next or an even later round (since a team will pass on the #3 defensive tackle to get the #7 wide receiver, if that's their need).

It's pretty simple. A lot of the projections of Bresee as a top 15 pick was based on his measurables and what he did as a freshman/last year before his injury. He looked like maybe the best interior defensive lineman. But then after the season draws to a close, the experts look at him and realize he really wasn't good this year. They don't care what the reason was, since it's a business.

They look at defensive tackles. Bryan had a lot going on this year, but he obviously wasn't close to as dominant as Mazi Smith and Jalen Carter were. They faced double teams every play but still dominated, and their stats dwarf Bryan's (literally double the tackles). Bryan is the #3 at best DT, and really only 1 or 2 teams are likely to spend their first pick on a defensive tackle.

Another year of a healthy Bresee would have made a solid 1st round pick, and most likely a TOP 10-15 pick. I have no clue of where these guys get there information that the iron is hot for them to strike, but Bresee's own common sense should have told him that he didn't do enough the 2022 season to make him a solid 1st rounder. He knew better than anyone advising him the job that he didn't finish in 2022 bc of things happening in his life that he had no control over, but he was in control of the decision to come back and finish the job, and he chose not to, and like most, I believe that it's going to cost him a lot of money when it's all said and done. It probably won't, but it could cost him in the terms of an active roster spot, or a spot on a practice team....

That's easy to say but he could have just easily come back and been injured again or, even worse, just not that good. Then he would be looking at a 4-5 round selection, if not worse. I do agree that he will probably have a great combine and he seems to have the right attitude so he could still go round 1. Round 2 wouldn't be a disaster for him though.

Very unlikely. Not that many teams are expected to want defensive tackles this year. The Bears, the Browns, and maybe the Cowboys are the only ones that really seem like they might take one, the Cowboys less likely than the others. If you're a GM and your job depends on your drafting success, are you going to use your first pick on Bryan or Jalen Carter? I don't care what his measurables are, you'd be risking a ton to go out on a limb and guarantee those first round millions on Bryan and pass up the best player in the country. If you miss on Jalen, you can at least show the owner that everyone thought he was the best. Saying someone's measurables were good isn't going to save your job if you take a flyer. I think he'll go around 40-45 or so.

I agree that Bryan should have absolutely come back, because he has the talent and measurables to be a top 10 pick. The difference between first round cash and second round cash is about 19 million vs. 5 million. And I don't think Bryan will have the hype to sign huge sponsorships in the NFL after this year. He could have made some good money on NIL coming back and he'd have basically a second round floor if it didn't work out (it would be unlikely for him to have a worse season than 2022 statistically).

Do the Falcons want to draft another DE from Clemson? Their track record with Clemson DE's is not very good. Maliciah Goodman and Vic Beasley, do you want to risk a mid first round on a DE with a questionable motor?

Part of Vic's lack of success was the stupid defense that the Falcons used his second or third year where he was playing defensive end on a 3 man front. He had never been a great run stopper, so trying to stop the run and rush the passer was not going to work. I think maybe the next year when they went back to a four man line that he led the NFL in sacks.
