Deshaun Watson's lawyer releases statement on sexual assault allegations

Two more civil lawsuits alleging sexual assault and inappropriate conduct have been filed against Houston Texans quarterback Deshaun Watson to bring the total lawsuits to 16. Watson's lawyer Rusty Hardin released a statement on Tuesday denying his client forced any women to commit a sexual act. "I w Read Update »

At his point, I believe DW. Looks like the plaintiffs are trying to obtain free money. Unfortunately,in the short term, this will hurt DW's outstanding reputation.

Trying to keep him from being traded? He’s signed to a 5 year contract. If they don’t want to trade him then they don’t have to.

Nice try but there is zero chance...zero...that you are going to explain the illogic of the Texans orchestrating this to some people. I've been entertained by opinions like this for a week.

Re: TNET: Deshaun Watson's lawyer releases statement on sexual assault allegations

Mar 23, 2021, 8:56 PM

Once again, it is pretty friggin simple. The NFL is now involved. They dont have to wait for a court ruling. If they determine that Deshaun has breached the ethics part of his contract, and it is up to them to determine what ethics includes, they can declare the contract void. Texans no longer have to pay him.

Re: TNET: Deshaun Watson's lawyer releases statement on sexual assault allegations

And so then Texans lose any trade value he had. How does that square with good business for the Texans?

military_donation.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: TNET: Deshaun Watson's lawyer releases statement on sexual assault allegations

Mar 24, 2021, 8:05 AM

They dont have to pay him. Cut ties and losses. Not the first time a team has dropped a player. Do they get value, no, but they dont have to pay the contract money. They have already claimed a new QB from the Chargers. The texans tried and couldnt get what they wanted for value, so they are cutting ties.
The claims against him are either false or they are true. His character, up to this point, has never been in question. He has donated large sums of money to Houston and others. This doesnt fit his character. Of course, money and fame has ruined many in higher places. If the claims are false, the texans are trying to get out of the contract.

Can you think of a time in the history of any sport where a professional organization, in an attempt to cut a player and recoup money, has orchestrated something like this? Sure players get cut. A player of this caliber....like this? You really believe executives of an NFL team sat down and came up with this scenario, found a lawyer to advance it, then found women, over 20 now from multiple states, to potentially destroy their reputations for whatever little money they are likely to see from this?

Or, do you think it's more likely DW likes "special" massages, someone found out about it, and decided to exploit it for money?

Mar 24, 2021, 9:30 AM [ in reply to Re: TNET: Deshaun Watson's lawyer releases statement on sexual assault allegations ]

If they traded him they would also not have to pay the contract, and they would also get draft picks which would likely include multiple 1st round picks. So why would they prefer to simply cut him then?

And the quarterback you mentioned, Tyrod Taylor? He's been a backup for the past 3 years, and for the majority of his 10 years in the league. They didn't sign him to replace Watson, they signed him to be a backup. They also acquired Ryan Finley who is even less likely to be meant as a long term starting QB.

But yeah ok, they decided to frame Watson for hiring a reported 20 or so women for massages including flying some of them in from other states to say that Watson tried to force himself on them or whatever, and they did this because they wanted to get out of the contract he has without getting anything in return instead of getting out of the contract by trading him and getting a lot back. As part of this master plan they picked up two career backup quarterbacks because no other team in the league has any other quarterbacks except for their starter.

They are desperate to keep him, as evidenced by their actions so far. That entire organization is a dumpster fire. They shot themselves in the foot when they declined to even talk to other teams about the massive packages that were being put together. Illogical? Yeah. Would it surprise me in the least if they were trying to ruin Deshaun's character? Nope.

Won Division 6 times. Last time with DW4 in 2019. They have problems for sure!
Their team President used to be a Clemson grad, pretty successful building the team.
They Drafted Andre Johnson, JJ Watt, Hopkins, Clowney, and released them when it was time (for business).
Kubiac or O’Brien could not win in playoffs. Fired the both after they cratered.

The Texans are not trying to damage DW4. It is all about the money. I believe DW4
DW4 was stupid to put himself in the situation to let this happen. He will learn an expensive lesson.
He was too trusting of the wrong people! They want his money.
He will play for the Texans in 2021, no other team will touch him now.

Re: TNET: Deshaun Watson's lawyer releases statement on sexual assault allegations

Mar 23, 2021, 9:00 PM [ in reply to Re: TNET: Deshaun Watson's lawyer releases statement on sexual assault allegations ]

First, logic isn't exactly the Texans strong suit, or they'd have never been in the position they are in now (trading away some of their best players, firing their coach midseason, reneging on the deal with Deshaun, etc). But by all accounts, they want to keep him; they could have gotten a MASSIVE deal for him but wouldn't even talk to interested teams.

Second, a week ago the biggest story was "where will Deshaun land". Who wants him now? Assuming this is all ginned-up BS, can his lawyer get rid of everything in time for him to trade elsewhere? Or does this back him into a corner *even if the allegations are false*.

I'm not saying the texans orchestrated it, but it sure is convenient timing. Everything about this lawsuit is suspect.

Re: TNET: Deshaun Watson's lawyer releases statement on sexual assault allegations

The most logical explanation is the trade situation is why the plaintiffs decided to launch this shake down now while DW4 is most vulnerable and willing to chef the claims as expeditiously as possible.

I thought about this too. But when I actually think about it, it doesn't make sense.

They don't have to trade him nor do they have to do something to make him stay. If they don't want to trade him, they don't have to. Now, of course, he can choose not to play. But they still wouldn't have to trade him.

Edit: I also believe Deshaun.

But between the NFL investigation & both sides of this civil case, I'm optimistic we'll find the answers soon enough to move forward. I still believe DW will play ball outright, but I can't wait 'til all of this is over.

I'll say it again: Buzzbee is a lowlife ambulance chaser, and this has come across as a smear job from Minute 1. A lot of those individual complaints, if you read them on their own merits were like, wut? "I came. I gave Deshaun a message. Deshaun wore a skimpy towel. I felt uncomfortable."

It's like: honey, you're suing over this?

A lot of those "complaints" are going to get tossed right back out of court with extreme irritation by the judge in about 30 seconds. But that's the whole point. They're going to get into court...and more to the point, they're going to get into the press...the overwhelming sense I'm getting, here, is this is Buzzbee creating much of a muchness, the illusion that there's a there there, and creating a pile-on with the idea of bullying Deshaun right off the pot before he even realized Buzzbee was coming. Classic blitz attack, convict him in the court of public opinion before anyhing even reaches the courtroom.

But I am just highly dubious that anything legit originates as a demand for a six-figure settlement, and even more so that truth originates from a guy like Buzzbee and not Deshaun. The guy is pond scum. Deshaun's always exuded class.

I just do not buy it, never have, and will continue to say so, until Buzzbee shows something that looks even remotely authentic. He hasn't at all, yet. In fact the one text message he did show actually looked like the exact opposite of proof, at least for the plaintiff, anyhow.

Highly unlikely. I believe there is at least one case where damage were awarded, but unless the attorney can prove damage to his/her reputation the case would most likely get thrown out. Proving that a post on an anonymous message board caused reputational damage is highly unlikely.

Yeah Rusty Hardin is one of the best in the business. For example, he successfully defended Roger Clemens against obstruction of justice and perjury charges in the Congressional investigation on steroid use by MLB players, when I and everyone else on the planet pretty much know that Clemens took steroids. I can't believe he's still practicing law though, the dude is like 80 years old.

It's possible for a few things to be true at the same time. The Texans are inept at managing players, but to think this is an organizational conspiracy is farfetched; Buzbee is probably shady AF; and Deshaun could have done some or all of this. There were no allegations following him out of college, and this number of women makes it seem like Deshaun was doing nothing but exhaustively seeking out sexual massages -- I find that suspect. But just because some of the women may be lying does not mean they all are.

We all think the world of Deshaun, but we don't know what he's like in private. We don't know.

Tony Busbee is a neighbor to McNair the CEO of Houston Texans. Of course, Busbee doesn't know him.

"I need to dispel some silly rumors,” Buzbee said. “Yes, I live on River Oaks Boulevard and I live near the McNair family. I don’t know the McNair family. I wouldn’t recognize Cal or Hal or whatever his name is, if I saw him on the street. This case has nothing to do with the Texans, has nothing to do with free agency. The timing? I don’t know anything about that silliness and frankly don’t care about it. The Texans are not a team that I follow. This case is about brave women who are willing to step forward knowing that they will be criticized and ostracized and we should all get behind them, applaud them for their bravery and support them.”

Also, Busbee is running for mayor. Imagine that.
Someone recently robbed Busby (guess that was DeShaun

HOUSTON — "Police have arrested three suspected gang members in the February burglary of Tony Buzbee's home, the Houston mayoral candidate says."

Buzbee posted on Facebook late Thursday that the items stolen from his home, which have an estimated value of more than $5 million, are still missing. How many people go on Facebook to share what $5 million of stuff was robbed?

So
NEIGHBOR HOUSTON CEO
MAYORAL CANDIDATE
$5 MILLION OF HIS PROPERTY(MAYBE?) MISSING.
How many attorneys have so much stuff that some guys break in and get away with $5 million? Lots of money-yes. 5 million worth of personal property thieves can get in and out of his house?

Perhaps DeShaun should launch a counter-suit. There's always a money trail somewhere.

How many people, other than low lifes, keep text messages that they just happen to have handy for a lawsuit? Why would you keep them if not for the fact that it was setup.

What part of this does not scream "Setup"?

I wish people like him had to get a real job instead of being a parasite on others. I hope DeShauns attorney is top notch.

He needs to take an unconventional tact with this. Send a message to the Texans and the accusers and the accusing lawyer. This is no longer a game. This is for keeps.

Defamation of character that ruins a multimillion a year career warrants a lot of counter lawsuit $$ to be lobbed their way. Damages to be awarded to DW4 in that countersuit should sober them up real quick.
