Clemson stays outside top-5 in AP Poll

There was movement in the top-5 of the Associated Press rankings this week, but that did not change Clemson's place in the poll. Oregon vaulted to No. 4 after a top-5 win at Ohio State Saturday, 35-28. Alabama still tops the poll, followed by Georgia, Oregon, Oklahoma and Iowa, which also grabbed a Read Update »

The most surprising thing to me was TAM of the mighty SEC

Sep 12, 2021, 4:56 PM

dropping 2 spots, even after just eeking out a win at Colorado! Usually, SEC teams never drop after a win, no matter how they look! To me, Iowa has been the most impressive team, other than Bama...I think the only team to beat two ranked teams so far, so I would have them ahead of Oregon.

This result from the second weekend of college football illustrates Clemson's problem. It's schedule is not taken seriously, so a string of victories is not given the weight that its win-loss record would suggest. Clemson getting to the BCS will be a last resort decision by the Committee, and it will only occur if it cannot find another one or even two loss team deemed more worthy. Even multiple losses by the five above Clemson won't get Clemson in because the Committee will continue leapfrogging others over Clemson and into the top four slots. The treatment of Oregon is a good example of how things will go.

Well our D held the #2 in the country to 3 pts aside from a turnover. Maybe if we look sharp enough they will take that into consideration. The eye test will matter though.

Everyone relax, the AP Poll means absolutely nothing. The only polls that matter are the Playoff rankings and they do not come out for weeks. Oregon will lose one or two like they do every year. Oklahoma will lose one maybe two. Clemson is in a good spot. A&M has to play Alabama,Auburn and LSU. It will be alright in the end.
