Clemson picks up transfer commit

Youngstown State graduate transfer Naz Bohannon announced a commitment to Clemson on Tuesday. Bohannon, who is listed at 6-6 and 228 pounds, averaged 16.5 points, 8.2 rebounds and 3.2 assists per game last season with the Penguins. He also averaged double figures scoring as a junior (11.2 PPG) with Read Update »

this is huge! I mentioned him last week as great chance transfer. Can score, rebound and is a play maker for a forward. He had a triple double last season. Getting Collins and this guy is huge for this team next season! We improved a lot...

Bohemian and Collins appear to be physical and strong.***

He is a good player who can help us, but he sure didn’t play forward in that game shown in the highlight film. He set up every possession on the foul line with his back to the basket and never took a shot beyond three feet.

Must have worked so who cares. Coaches shape offense around players not try to fit players into a scheme.

Great pickup but his style won't work with CBB ...

Coaching style. If you watched the video with his offensive rebounding and scoring, that whole part of the game goes away. CBB's teams turn and run to the other basket just as soon as shot is put up so they have defensive positioning. Naz was playing the offensive rebounds and immediate put back. If CBB didn't want Simms to play that way Naz surely won't so I hope he has a mid-range shot also.

While slightly sarcastic there is also some truth in previous comment. I guarantee his rebound avg gets cut in half and I bet scoring goes down by 30+% strictly due to the reduced offensive rebounds that CBB teams dont aggressively play.

But I am happy to see Mr Naz join our team as he will be a definite position filler next year.

I’m sorry you have such a negative view of our program.

I think he’s a great fit for what we need. Our coaches wouldn’t have recruited him if they didn’t think so, and Naz wouldn’t have chosen Clemson over 30+ other schools if he didn’t think so.

Perhaps you’re not giving those involved enough credit here.

You’re absolutely right. Arguably the best team in Clemson will be upgraded at every position next year. So we should see the Elite 8. Anything less is a disappointment. Agree?

Excellent addition. I thought the Rutgers game exposed the lack of physicality on last year’s team. Would love to see a signing similar to Kidd of last year, or maybe another grad transfer. I think the top 9 is very tough with some different combinations for different situations. Getting excited for next season. Good job by the coaches.

I think we were worn out by the end of the year. We played like it late. CBB teams if good start hot early and wear down late.

Where do you go to see where and what schools wanted him. All I can find is the VC profiles that list the transfers and the rating column has rivals, ESPN etc.

When I click on him, VC rates him as a 2* and ESPN, rivals etc have an NR. But then when I click on the kid going from atm to Arkansas, he has a VC rating of 3.8, ESPN a 4* and rivals a 4*. So why this kid only lists as a 2* by one service.

I'm confused.

You won't see it for transfers, but go to the link I posted he was wanted by Arkansas, other SEC schools and some other high major teams. Saw more than one write up where he had over 30 schools who offered him since he announced he was transferring in mid April.

Also that was his HS rating. A lot of power 5 schools go after the same type of mid major transfer who has shown to really improve and put on a lot of muscle.

Thanks. Missed your post earlier. Too bad both the transfers are one year. Guess that's just basketball and soon to be every sport.

Kinda like work. Have a small team and then hiring contractors to do a specific task... Vs hiring someone full time.

Management business? I worked as a production and logistics mgr for software and hardware deployment for Enterprise businesses like IBM, Amazon, HP, etc. And what you described as not filling out your team and always hiring contractors to source part of the work is exactly the dilemma I was always fighting with management. Your description gave me flashbacks, haha! Now I'm one of those contractors.

That's too funny ICA. Yes, I worked project mgmt for SC state gov in our IT administration. We hired a lot of Indians... And then they tended to stick around. The employees hated it because, as you probably know, it's not cheap. What would really get the state employees is when said contractors seemingly didn't know what they did... The whole stealing my job scenario.

I have zero knowledge of basketball and recruiting. Or what a bball designed play looks like. If you guys say it's a huge get, then it must be. I was just looking up his name like I do in FB to read all the recruiting press.

I want every Clemson team in every sport to win a national championship or at least have a chance... Of course I know that's impossible.

Hopefully he will show up and ball out but he was unrated as a basketball player out of highschool and Youngstown State is a very poor basketball program. They had a losing record against the 288th SOS in the NCAA last season. It will be a massive learning curve.

I can understand he is in one of the weaker Mid major conferences, but you have to look at the overall talent of the team not the individual player. YSU had a limited COVID schedule this season with no power conference teams but last season Naz had good games vs Louisville and West Virginia. He had 14 pts and 8 boards vs the Cards, and 7 pts and 13 rebs vs WV.

Congratulations to us all for getting a really good basketball player when we needed it!

Now let’s hope we are winning so big in most games we won’t need him to bring us back. I really like the fact he handles the ball well, finds the open man & passes the ball looking to get the rebound if needed.
