Brownell updates latest on Tigers returning to action

Clemson men's basketball has been on a pause for COVID-19 protocol since last Sunday evening that caused the postponement of two games and a break in the typica Read Update »

I'm sorry but after a year of this we should have better protocols in place. Protocols should progress with the knowledge. There is absolutely NO reason after a year why we can't have these guys testing out.

It certainly does seem that way. Over the weekend I was looking at other conference standings etc and there are many teams that have played more than 20 games. In fact, it appears the ACC is behind most conferences in games played. Just found it a bit odd.

Now, I guess the latest lenardi? Sp. Rating still shows us as a 7 seed. I'm not sure how updated that is as the article said Feb 12... Judge is on top of it though.

Will we be penalized for playing less games? Just don't see how we'd make up 4 games.

About half of the top 25 has played 20 or more games....

And many of those have just hit 20 this weekend.

We are at 18 and clearly not alone. Michigan is number 3 and has only played 15 games.

At this point there is not much time left and it doesn’t look like we are going to make up any games. It’s not a necessity at this juncture.
We caught a break (from a Clemson $ perspective) with getting more road games canceled than home games. Other teams (see UNC) are scheduling random games to make up home games.
At this point we need to get back out on the court and win these next 3 games to tune up for the tournaments....but we don’t need to reschedule anything. I suppose the ACC could tag us with a road game next week since we have a gap in the schedule...but my guess is that our ‘Covid break’ will deter them from doing that.

You make several good observations.

Contrast UNC (the current #4 seed) with FSU (the current #1 seed) re. actual conference records:

UNC 5-0 @ Home, 3-5 Away, 3 Home games ppd.
FSU 7-0 @ Home, 2-2 Away, 1 Home and 3 Away games ppd.

Both teams have played some excellent basketball down the stretch. It would have been interesting to see them play out a full schedule .
OTOH, perhaps the missing games are what makes their seasons so fascinating.

I hope we can look back at our own the same way after play resumes.

ACC probably has stricter protocols***

I’m guessing the conference tournaments will be sacrificed as nobody wants a bunch of teams in the same building together that might knock several out of the dance. Canceling the conference tournaments should allow for a couple extra makeup games and to keep teams in rhythm.

With testing you have a 3 to 5 day period where someone can have the virus but not test positive. If they test positive that's a minimum 10 day quarantine plus contact tracing quarantine.Unlike football, these guys are inside, huffing and puffing while guarding each other- on top of each other. Basically, if anyone test positive, you just shut the whole team down unless they came off of a break or something. These guys run all the time so I would assume you'd be extra cautious. Football players run as well but outside. I think the football team did exceptionally well. Our basketball issues are nothing shocking. I hope they fare better than they did after the last "pause". I think it's say to say we're all tired of this sh!+.

I bet they send us to Syracuse on Wednesday March 3.
Syracuse last scheduled game is that Monday.
