The #29 figure applies only if one dramatically pares down the field by considering only public universities.

There is nothing wrong with #74. It is a large nation.

Some people cannot stand good news.

The point here is that the ACC carries more academic prestige than the big ten. Among our peers, public institutions, we do rank 29th nationally.

Without regard to the public or private nature of the schools, the ACC has 8 schools among the top 50 while the Big 10 has 4. Clemson's 74th place in this ranking is 12th among ACC schools (including ND this year) and we would rank 11th in the Big Ten.

The ACC has higher national academic prestige than the Big 10.
The ACC has won more Nattys in the last 30 years than the Big 10. So we win.

The SEC wins the comparison on the Natty side of the house, but is not close on academic measures.
The PAC 12 is a fine academic conference. Do they still play football?
