I thought about that myself;: the lack of success that former Clemson coaches have. I think it’s a product of they thrive in Dabo system, but outside that system and without the vast resources Clemson has, they struggle.

That's what I would say also, and hopefully that coaches, and players can see that leaving Clemson isn't always going to be the best thing they can do for their career bc, Dabo is able to get whats needed at Clemson that helps Clemson to be one of the best Programs in the country. Sometimes coaches will get the big head and believe that Clemson's success has been about them, and they forget that the Clemson Program and how it works is about Dobo #1, and Dabo put them in a position to do to good things at Clemson. Why do I say that, I say it bc they wasn't around when Dabo took over at Clemson, and it was by his management of everything why Clemson FB has grown the way that it has!!!

Very well said and an excellent perspective regarding “the grass is greener.” Dabo’s leadership obviously goes much further and deeper than just boss-to-employee.

I'm going to disagree from a standpoint of leaving Clemson. Neither Elliot or Venables left because the grass was greener. They left for good head coaching positions. Both waited until the right job came along, and then left to try the next step in coaching. Maybe neither will succeed as a head coach, but it is still too early to tell. Even if they fail, they still gave it their best shot, and you can't succeed at something that you never try.

As for the players, I'm not saying that they left in the best manner, but like the coaches, they left in order to give themselves an opportunity to succeed. None of the ones mentioned, nor most of the others that leave were going to get a chance barring injury. Being too far down the depth chart at Clemson does not mean that they are not good enough to make an impact at other programs. The way that a few players have left, might signal some flaws in their life that might carry over to football and impact their play when they move on. However, just the fact that they look for an opportunity to play elsewhere does not weigh negatively in my mind.

You have missed the point of Dabo's abilities to lead/manage a college FB to elite statist by placing coaches in positions and giving them what they needed as a coach to succeed!!! Dabo deserves everything due to the Clemson FB success, IMO!!!

I'm not arguing that Dabo doesn't put these people in a position to succeed, or that he has not developed a culture that breeds success. To me using the cliche, "the grass is always greener", infers that these people left with unrealistic expectations.

All of the coaches that were mentioned left for head coaching positions. The Bud Fosters of the world, of the world, that have no curiosity of how they could do as the alpha dog are rare. Venables was probably close. Oklahoma was probably one of two jobs that he would have considered. I just believe that the characterization that these people left looking for a place better than Clemson is unfair, considering they left to pursue an opportunity that was not going to present itself here.

College football has never been more of a business than right now. Head Coaching jobs have become similar to the role of CEO. Just bc ur a good assistant or have a high football IQ doesn't mean u would be a great Head Coach. BV is a great coach, Lebby is a great coach but 49-0 was an absolute shocker. Dabo is great at what Dabo does and people buy in to it. It will be interesting to see how this BV situation plays out. Good win Tigers, let's keep it rolling!!!!!

Spector and Davis need to be mentioned

Oct 10, 2022, 9:35 AM

Davis is a great blocker and turning into an excellent pass receiver. Spector is a good blocker and a clutch player as a big backup to Antonio. What has happened to #6? Did he lose his speed with his injury last year?

military_donation.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

#6…..appears to have…..

Oct 10, 2022, 11:54 AM

(EJ) lost the will to compete…IMO. He doesn’t run his routes effectively, gets no separation and doesn’t appear to even battle for 50/50’s when given the chance.
IDK…..but it just doesn’t look like he cares any longer….????
Hopefully….he can turn this around because he looked like the next Ross/ Higgins a few Seasons ago….
Go Tigers…!!!!?????

EJ is playing hurt, he’s doing his best to contribute. He’s going to be a great player!

It has nothing to do with his ability when he’s well, try catching a ball from the missile launcher DJ with a broken thumb!

We keep getting better & better everyday, in every way!

Ok….so it’s hard to catch “some” passes with a broken thumb….didn’t stop me from catching passes with a broken index finger taped to my middle finger with a splint.
What does a broken thumb have to do with effort and being competitive while on the field??? He can still run a route can’t he????

the offense is so inconsistent it just boggles the mind. Better get this fixed quick.

Re: Defense is coming around but...

We are scoring on 56% of our drives. That is hardly inconsistent. We still are not running the ball effectively, and that might come back to haunt us.

I know that you will hear things about treating every opponent the same, but I don't believe that Streeter is and I like that fact. We grumble because we are not blowing out some of the lesser teams like we think that we should. It seemed to me that the play calling for Wake and NC State was different from the other games, and I don't think it was a mere difference of facing different defenses. I believe that Streeter is experimenting to an extent, and not showing things that he doesn't need to when he doesn't feel like we are in danger of being beaten.

I'm not sure it's fair to say any coach left feeling...

Oct 11, 2022, 7:16 AM

'The grass is greener,' elsewhere. Jeff, Tony and Brent are all high caliper men who entered coaching with intent on becoming head coaches. Dabo is practical and knows, from his own life goals that there comes a time to move on and take that next step in life. Had they not been driven to progress and move up in the world Dabo wouldn't have hired them.

I've always believed that Dabo had a hand in each of them taking the jobs they took. I can't imagine them not having talked to Dabo about when to move and where to move to. Imo, a great part of their decisions to move had to do with Dabo being comfortable with their replacements.

I can see a great distance between Dabo and each of those men but that's not isolated to just Brent, Tony and Jeff. There's a lot of distance between Dabo and every other coach in the world too, imo.

If there is a mistake made by those three coaches it's probably to do with Jeff. He may have moved to the wrong school. I expect Tony and Brent to succeed enough to satisfy their job requirements but both have goals to make their new teams their own and that's going to take some time. It always does and it probably always will.;

KB is a baby who let his ego wag the dog. Imo, Dabo advised the other players to leave.

Since it takes me a few days to finally start digging in to all the stats, stories, etc. (as a point, here I am on Wed rewatching the game and scrolling through post game videos, etc.j.

Found this to be an odd addition to the game recap.

While I do NOT want any of them and their new teams to enjoy success against my Tigers, I also don’t begrudge the coaches or players that moved on for opportunity any personal success. Still, a strange ‘report’, imo.
