I agree with him. It was so frustrating for the refs to call from the booth and spend 5 minutes looking at it to call it. Then he gets thrown out of the game and has to sit out the first half of a championship game for something that wasn’t blatantly obvious. I understand calling the penalty but people can get hurt from a facemask or horsecollar and they don’t get thrown out of the game. There needs to be 2 tiers like flagrant fouls in basketball

That is the truth. I watched the replays and thought how would you go about finishing that tackle without dipping down to the level of the runner? There did not appear to be a way to go about it without getting speared in the groin.

But there need to be two types of targeting - intentional and inadvertent. Intentional gets you ejected and the inadvertent is just like any other 15 yards unsportsmanlike call.

I agree too. The defenseless player can lower their head but not the defensive player. It’s very difficult to adjust at that speed. When he starts that tackle the running backs helmet is higher.

Anyway, if the penalty is ejection plus missing a half then he should be able to play in the second qtr since he’s already been out a full qtr. if the penalty was called in the second qtr he would be able to start next weekend. I know that’s not how it’s written but seems like he’s suffering more than a half of football

Did we appeal the ACCCG suspension? I missed the ruling if

What was frustrating to me was the non-call on the helmet-to-helmet on DJU5 in the 3rd or early 4th quarter. (He should have been pulled for several plays, at least.) The USuC LB (?) hit him from the side and raised his helmet at the last second to spear DJU5's helmet. DJU5 stayed on his knee for 5-10 seconds and got up wobbly.
If Mickens had not dropped his helmet, he would have been speared (and likely badly injured) and run over by the USuC runner. It was self-preservation for Mickens. I feel sure the ACC remote officials saw that, too!
It was a part of the no penalties on USuC game.

I'm glad the officials "saw" something in the game. They sure as H E L L didn't "see" any of the numerous holding penalties against USuC.

Pretty sure it’s “grain of slaw”.
