Funny what a weeks practice does for a person, DABO and Streeter says he wasn't quite ready to play in the SC game, what a stark contract from what Cade says about his practices and DABOS' opinion, yet goes out and throws and runs the lights out as a MVP for the NC game. LMFAO

I still cant believe DABO wasted talent like this for a year playing DJU, and think about what kind of year the receiver's could have had also with a real QB that can make the throws. Looking forward to a good performance from the entire team Dec 30. Team performance all evolves around great QB play. GO TIGERS !!!!

Yeah you deserve those thumbs down. How old are you? Probably much older than that 21 year old who put in a lot of work for this program.

Dec 18, 2022, 2:39 PM [ in reply to Re: From “not ready” to MVP in 1 week.*** ]

Don't think you were walking that path alone bc, there were hundreds of us here just on T-Net singing the very same Cade Klubnik song!!! We used our eyes with what very limited times Cade was allowed to come in a game to get playing time, and what we saw was simply pathetic bc of Cade's playing time being wasted through the horrified play calling that was designed for Cade that I believe was designed to actually hide how ready Cade was bc when he was really needed to score for the team to secure a win, there was a broader play book for him to operate than it was when he was sent in for mop up duty.

And yes, I am saying that Cade's readiness was being camouflaged through the play calling in most of the times he was allowed to play. And seeing it happen has caused me to lose 95% of what I thought was unbreakable trust that Dabo would always do what was best for them to win games as he had shown he would do throughout his time as the Clemson HC, like when he allowed DW4 to play against the coots had their 5-game winning streak and going for #6, and Dabo never allowed the bad press he was getting over that change his mind one bit, but something has went array with his win at all cost decision making, especially this past season bc about the entire country knew that we could be a better team with Cade behind center...

Rest assured that our opponents was really glad that Dabo refused to allow Cade the opportunity I believe that he actually won week in and week out on the practice field ahead of every game we played this season without Cade Klubnik as the starting QB. His teammates would talk about how good Cade looked at practice, and out the other side of their mouths we would hear that DJ was our starter without the same praises they were giving to Cade. In those interview sessions is when I really started to believe that something in the milk wasn't clean, and the actual truth was being kept from all that wasn't allowed to watch practice, and they didn't do a good job with that bc without it being out right said, there were things said by players that hinted Cade was the real deal, and Cade himself knew he was the best QB on the team.

I'm personally shocked that Cade is still at Clemson, and I think the only reason he is, is bc someone that Cade trust more than anyone, ask him to stick it out until the end of the season. But I think that they told Cade that if DJ decided to come back next season, then he should transfer out. And now Cade knows that he got the best advice from whoever it is that he trust the most, bc of the way everything played out, he is now the starting QB at the school where he wanted to be, and DJ is the one that transferred out. And now the best will come if Cade continues to prove that he is the best QB, and from what I've seen to this point, he is, and he will get better now that he is the starter, and the play book was opened up to him in ACC championship game!!!!

You’ll get TDs for calling any Tiger player childish names. Most, if not all, of us would have liked to see Cade play more throughout the season. At the beginning of the season I fully expected a TL/KB type of situation. Didn’t happen. Calling a member of the Clemson team names over it it is nothing short of childish.

You have selective hearing and memory

Dec 18, 2022, 10:21 AM [ in reply to Re: From “not ready” to MVP in 1 week.*** ]

Dabo said he tried to give Cade an opportunity to take the job at ND. Do you remember what happened? It was a disaster.

Now, it may have been just an unfortunate coincidence that Cade made a terrible freshman mistake in that situation, but Dabo couldn't stick with him at that time. It was too much of a gamble.

I agree, in hindsight, that Cade should have gotten a chance in the SC game. But after that bad loss, the time was right to attempt a change vs UNC if he came in and created a spark. He did. The rest is history.

The point is, the page might have been turned in South Bend. Cade didn't do his part. That meant Dabo had to wait for the right timing to try again. He has the respect of the leadership of the team because he doesn't make decisions on a whim. You have to earn it and Cade simply wasn't ready when the big opportunity presented itself. So Dabo had to keep his cards close to the vest.

Vs Scar, it wasn't just DJ having a bad day. There were two lost fumbles, remember? One after a great punt return that would have set us up for a potential game-winning drive. That wasn't on DJ, was it? Hold on to the ball there, gain 25 yards, give BT a chance to win it, and we might have been in the playoffs.

That's the real picture.

He threw cade in at a terrible spot on the field. A real chance would have been to let him start the half and see what happens.

Not sure why you call a pass play there either. Just try to get some yards to make room for the punt.

I totally agree. Cade was set up by Coach Streeter to fail in the ND game. Right-handed qb throwing left with their defense on tight coverage was not fair to Cade at all.

....There would have been an opportunity to see how he responds to adversity.... But instead we got to see a badly underthrown pass in the red zone turn into a 96 yard pick six....

Re: If Cade had stayed in at ND....

Dec 18, 2022, 10:55 AM

Cade didn't throw that pass. He threw INT when he was backed up to our own 5yd line trying to make something happen. Coaches should have called 3 running plays after they tried running on first down.

That’s YOUR subjective view called an opinion. The facts are one play against ND isn’t giving anyone a chance. The game was lost at that point. Why not leave him in?! I would have started playing CK in game one. Final three drives. Game two; final quarter. Game three; second half. Game four; turn him loose. My opinion is if Dabo does this, we are the two seed in the CFP with a date against TCU. CK fresh from a trip to NY as a Heisman finalist. Based on what I have seen from this kid, it’s all possible. Everyone knew DJ had ZERO chance to fulfill any of those expectations. The only thing we knew was that DJ was going to make Clemson football painful to watch.

We will never know, now, but I thought from the start of the season that Dabo was looking at a Kelly/Trevor situation. Why he didn't give Cade a chance to develop and prepare to take over like he did Trevor will probably always remain a mystery. I think we missed a golden opportunity to have a very special season. I personally hate that it cost us the rivalry game. Still pissed.

Your selective memory don't recall he put Cade in on our own 5yd line and asked him to handoff, run and then pass where he tried to make something happen and threw interception. He was never brought in again. He put the kid in a bad situation.

Re: You have selective hearing and memory

Dec 18, 2022, 3:36 PM [ in reply to You have selective hearing and memory ]

Yes I do remember Cade being thrown in the game backed up at the ND endzone with little playing time with the exception of the Cuse game that he won 14 days prior at home in Death Valley with most of his playing time was handing the ball off to Shipley. That was nothing even close to the same situation he was thrown into 2 weeks later at ND where a seasoned starter would have a ton of pressure on them, and a true freshman was thrown into a Nuclear situation backed up to the ND endzone where they overloaded the box and came after Cade like the bombing of Pearl Habor, and God forbid the true freshman that just entered the game cold, and he made a critical mistake trying to avoid being sacked in the endzone with a ND player grabbing Cade he throws an Int. But that wasn't the first or only critical mistake made in that in that game that had nothing to do with Cade Klubnik that should have been in that game long before we were backed up to the ND endzone, just maybe his throwing accuracy and speed would have given us a chance to win that game in ND's back yard...

Just like other really bad decisions made by our coaching staff during the entire season, I would easily put a check mark in the box by that mistake, and as if that was enough, another huge mistake IMO was pulling Cade back out the game and not giving him an equal fare chance to make up for his only mistake in that game bc he didn't another chance like DJ, punter Swanson and others. IMHO, the play that Cade had with the Int, out QB with the most experience should have been in the at that point bc, DJ had run us out of those same situations prior to that one. A cold off the bench player should have never been placed in that situation unless the coaches wanted him to get some experience on what not to do when backed up to your opponent's endzone!!!!!!!

Here at the 3-minute mark you will see a major mistake made by Dabo, Streeter, or both bc Cade should have never been thrown in there with that situation cold off the bench, and hadn't played a snap in two weeks, since the Cuse game. Honestly, after the Cuse game is when Cade should have been named the starter. Trevor was named starter against a much better QB than DJ was, and it was close to the very same circumstances when Trevor took the job from Kelly Bryant!!!!

Interesting, because DJ made the same mistake with an interception, that I believe also was a pick 6. No consequences there, but Dabo justified one replacement , but not the other. Both were unacceptable. Cade got the ball, with hardly any time, backed up to his own endzone, and a bad (very bad) decision got him removed, but DJ's very bad decision was overlooked. Both were mistakes, but one got overlooked. The other was used as a validation for keeping DJ in the game. I have no more love for one than the other, but I certainly don't fault that loss to Cade, anymore than DJ.

Something else had to be going on that caused Dabo to

Dec 18, 2022, 9:15 AM [ in reply to Re: From “not ready” to MVP in 1 week.*** ]

Stick with DJ like he did. I refuse to believe Dabo was acting like he was based just on what he saw on the football field. He didn’t forget coaching and football. There are extenuating circumstances that I have to believe were in play here hat we probably will never know the whole story about.

The only thing I hope is Dabo learned something for the future as a result. Things like “don’t make promises you don’t want to have to keep”.

Re: While most of TigerNet is bashing coaches & DJ

Dec 18, 2022, 2:10 PM

Yes. Cade is top notch. I thought it funny the one thing g he credits DJ with teaching him is one of the things DJ struggled most with. He was so indecisive in the pocket and it looked like he only threw the ball if the receiver was wide open. Rarely did DJ just let it fly.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

That's very likely, because the idea that Cade was not ready

Dec 18, 2022, 10:02 AM [ in reply to Something else had to be going on that caused Dabo to ]

is now clearly false; in fact it's a hillarious, outrageous suggestion at this point. It's not believable. Yes, UNC had a weak defense, no doubt, but there's no denying the change in efficiency, effectiveness, and energy the minute Cade entered the game. Cade was more than ready, and obviously did not get that way in one-week's time, or even a couple of weeks. Cade had been ready and capable for some time. Any suggestions to the contrary are a joke, and good reason to doubt and distrust the messenger. At the same time, I still trust Dabo, based on seeing everything he's bult here at Clemson, and observing how he's done it and how he's conducted himself along the way. The only thing I can possibly conclude is that there was something in play here that he cannot talk about, and while I may strongly disagree with his refusal to play Cade much earlier, I can't really question his motivation.

Cade wasn't ready to start vs UNC. He needed 20 more minutes

Dec 18, 2022, 6:03 PM [ in reply to That's very likely, because the idea that Cade was not ready ]

... to study the playbook on the bench in Charlotte while DJ led two 3-and-outs. Fortunately, that extra 20 minutes was exactly the amount of time that Cade needed to finally master the playbook, and suddenly become infinitely superior to DJ. Prior to that, Klubnik was clearly inferior to DJ. That is a fact because Dabo is infallible and so he would never make a bad decision based on emotion or loyalty.
